Now, I realize Kryptonians and humans look identical on the outside, but obviously they are entirely different beings on the inside, what with the Kryptonian body being able to absorb yellow sun light and turn it into raw power and achieve all manner of superpowers. However, what I want to know is whether or not Kryptonians and humans are genetically compatible enough to have children, being different species from different worlds and all that. Also, if it is possible for them to interbreed, would the child of a human/Kryptonian coupling inherit any or all of the kryptonian parent's powers under a yellow sun? Same weaknesses as well?
Can Lois and Superman have kids?
I think it was in an issue of Adventures of Superman where Clark said he wasn't sure whether he and Lois could have children due to his being Kryptonian. In the same issue they showed what it would be like if they did have child. But last I heard he was still unsure, though that was a good four-five years ago.
actually they may be able to but scientifically speaking they couldn't have grand kids cause their kid would be like unable to reproduce like a mule or a liger
In Superman: Last Son, the Jor-El simulation in the Fortress of Solitude states that it's impossible for human and Kryptonians to have kids together.
Elseworlds stories have had Lois and Supes have kids though, but that's why they're Elseworlds.
If anything from The Pro follows true in mainstream comics than no. No they can not.
in some alternat reality he got her pregneant but the her baby kicked her from withing and killed her
I really like that they can't have children. It's just a tragic element to their relationship, makes it feel more real. Clark is out there smashing worlds, but he can't give his wife a child. I think that would weigh down on him a bit, which is sad, but also nice that he is, beneath it all, very human.
"in some alternat reality he got her pregneant but the her baby kicked her from withing and killed her "
thats kind of harsh
and no i dont think that is possible that would ruin the story
Judging from the cover of the upcoming Superman #704 issue, and the description given in DC blog, I'm guessing the kids and all that relationship matter is going to be the center of that issue.
@gabusan:
yeah but movies count as otherworld so it's about as relavent as the earlier cited case where lois got pregnant and the baby kicked inside her stomach killing her.
Sure as long as they conceived it while Superman was under artificial red sunlight or he would kill her. And the baby wont have super-powers until it is exposed to our yellow sun and there is no sunlight in the womb so as long as her is delivered in an enclosed room with no sun then Lois will be just fine.
Unless as stated they are genetically incompatible and if so then it is an impossibility unless Supes creates some sort of gene matching serum or something.
@thecannon: Сonnor proves that human DNA and DNA kriptonian compatible. But there is another option. The option that Superman used in the "All-Star Superman."
have sex under red solar energy.
give Lois powers like in All-Star Superman
Well Superman can control himself so sex would not be an issue. Even if they did manage to conceive a child and it had the powers of Superman I do not see that being an issue because the child would not have direct contact with the earths yellow sun so its powers would not be developed yet. I am unsure if a natural birth would be possible but I do not see any reason Superman and Lois could not have a child even if it was a test tube baby. The better question would be why does DC not want Lois and Clark to have a child?
They can have children.
Children | First Appearance |
---|---|
1. Jon Kent. Perhaps the most famous of children Clark and Lois. | "Superman #423 - Whatever Happened to the Man of Tomorrow?" |
2. Adam Kent. | JLA: Created Equal #1 - Book One: The Fall |
3. Joel William Kent | "Superman & Batman: Generations #2" |
4. Kara Kent. | Superman & Batman Generations #2 |
5. Jane Kent. | Superman: Secret Identity #3 |
6. Carol Kent. | Superman: Secret Identity #3 |
7. Laney. | Superman #215 |
@beautifultemptress: All those are alternate universe. (is is arguable if new52 Jon Kent is, but I think he is from an alternate universe future)
I assume Superman has supersperm that would wreck up Lois' insides (eew)
There were times pre-52 when Lois or Clark lamented that they couldn't have kids together, and I prefer it that way. Even though they are very much in love, there is always a tragedy to their relationship because they are unable to reproduce together. If Superman has kids, I prefer him making them with another super powered lady like Wondy in Kingdom Come.
@rdclip: Most likely in a possible future, than in the alternative future.
In october comics, Connor together with his team, is given in the future where will meet with the son of Superman and Lois Lane.
they shouldn't be able to but this is a comic so they can always find away. Still no for the conventional ways since it would kill her only women like maxima, wonderwoman are compatible and would survive carrying a kryptonian child.
@primebonnick: I doubt. In new universe Lois could bear and deliver a child by the name of John.
if birthing is the problem put her under a red sun
genetically IDK
but if Lois isn't Superman's girlfriend/wife or a superhero why is she still in the comics?
Because she an integral part of the mythology of Superman.
Destroying one column they can destroy the whole building.
It's impossible. Lois could never have Superman's baby. Do you think her fallopian tubes could handle his sperm? I guarantee he blows a load like a shotgun right through her back. What about her womb? Do you think it's strong enough to carry his child? He's an alien, for Christ sake. His Kyrptonian biological makeup is enhanced by Earth's yellow sun. If Lois gets a tan, the kid could kick right through her stomach. Only someone like Wonder Woman has a strong enough uterus to carry his kid. The only way he could bang regular chicks is with a Kryptonite condom, but that would kill him.
@llawrence666: It is a fictitious world. Anything can happen if the writers want it so.
@llawrence666: What the Hell are you talking about? Jon Kent is the future son of Lois and Clark. Not alternate universe or future. He's the real thing.
okay well i actually have a couple of remarks..
first off elseworlds i will not count for now, although i really love them and enjoy reading them a lot (check out darkclaw etc..). Well from what I have read/know in the comic injustice: gods among us, (will try not to spoil) it shows superman laying next to lois and he hears his babys heart beat way before lois even knew she was pregers, later on joker makes superman believe that lois is some type of monster/enemy trying to kill batman and superman basically brings her into outer space before he realizes (by hearing the two heartbeats) that he had just killed louis and his unborn child. that really confused me because in smallville and some other comics like action comics etc.. superman is not genetically compatible with humans. You should look into the princess of a planet called almerac created by roger stern and goerge perez. in smallville and other comics she actually comes to earth looking to find a mate compatible and equal to her (i dont know how but she might be able to absorb the suns energy like superman or similar) but when superman turns her down she goes bad, in smallville (so far) he sends her somewhere im not sure yet but, in the comics she starts to work along side braniac but then betrays him and saves earth with the other heroes. then she joins the league blah blah. i also know that superman and wonderwoman has a child and in the old comics superman basically impregnates women of other races mostly kryptionian. so i hope i answered some questions and maybe someone can enlighten me with some more facts as well. thanks for reading. @sinestro2828@illituracy@_the_wanderer_
In else world stories, sure. Although it makes no sense. Even with a red sun, kryptonians have a super dense molecular structure, and are stronger than the average human naturally due to their planets much harsher environment (even without his powers, his skin is as hard as steel, hence the nickname, this was discovered after his death at the hands of Doomsday), so even if he did knock her up without killing her, the baby would still be strong enough to tear her organ, when it kicks. Not even mentioning the disaster of no red sun being involved. Needless to say it would take engineering to make them compatible, but, again the baby would still be too strong for her to withstand. This is just another reason why WW and Superman make far more sense, for me, besides the fact that he doesn't have to be practically human to be enjoyable.
