Why Aquaman May Be A Better Fit In The Trinity Than Wonder Woman
@flashknight: ... unless, you know, one of them suddenly decides he's always identified as female deep within his heart of hearts... sex change?
gotta be Batman.
No, the answer is Superman.
@outlawrenegade: I came in here with a thought in mind, (maybe an expletive as well) but your reasoning was so rational and so well thought out that I actually must applaud you. Well done sir! Even though I disagree, but well done!

Lol, thanks!
The thing is the trinity stands for hope, truth, and justice.
Supes = hope, WW = truth & Bats = justice
Batman stands for justice and to strike fear into the hearts of criminals, also batman does not kill because of some psychological reason. You could classify him almost as crazy as some of the people he fights, but he did learn to control his mind, so not as much as them.
Superman stands for hope and gives courage and tries to inspire people, and help bad people change into good people, and unlike batman if he absolutely must, he will kill 1 person to save hundreds+, as proven in superman #3, man of steel, etc.
And finally Wonder Woman stands for truth, she protects people from mythological threats, she also stands for feminism, rather showing that not only superMAN can be great heroes but superWOMAN as well. And unlike batman and superman she is not afraid to kill, cause she will not let her enemy`s live so they could kill another they. Though she does not do it before giving them a chance ( but to be fair her enemy`s are not for jail ), to put it in her words "the reason i don`t have a list of enemy's like you clark, or bruce, barry & the others is because when i deal with my enemy`s I deal with them!" And also just like you said she is perfect for the balance of DNA, TECH & MAGIC. And there is nothing ( except the water part ) that aquaman could bring that she can`t to the trinity, actually she already brings more, she is a woman, her powers come from gods, and she is a princes the same way he is a king, we already saw that her amazons and arthurs atlantians are the same strength thanks o flashpoint.
@outlawrenegade: Only if Supes can have a gay relationship with Aquaman and they can get their own comic. On a serious note, your points are pretty lame and actually most of the things you´re saying Aquaman has the WW doesn´t are plain wrong. Batman/Wonder Woman/Superman = Technological Soldier/Mystical Warrior/Alien God. If I want to be as arbritrary as you that works. Also Batman spirit of vengence/ supes of justice/ WW of peace. Plus, no one likes Aquaman, so thats about it.
@202122: I spent my whole life fighting Aquaman. It's tougher than it looks.
@jphulk26: I'm guessing you haven't been very aware. Aquaman's book is selling really well, more than Wonder Woman in fact. Plus, Aquaman has a pretty big fanbase now. His New 52 book is highly regarded by many as one of the best New 52 books currently. A ton of people are excited when Geoff Johns announced his animated movie. I do agree that I would rather have Wonder Woman in the trinity. But both are amazing characters. It's plain ignorance to say that no one likes Aquaman. That was 10 years ago.
@jphulk26: WW is an awesome character but your seriously crossing the line by saying nobody likes Aquaman. Especially since he's outselling WW at the moment and his book is considered one of the best the new 52 has to offer. And that's not even getting into the fanbase he's garnered due to Injustice and Batman TBATB.
I am totally won over. Great OP.

I could go for Supes/Bats/Aquaman as the Trinity.
@rustyroy: but what does that have to do with anything. Wonder Woman has already had her animated movie...which is the 4th best seller out of all those DC animated movie. As far as him outselling her right now ..again what does that mean? Britney Spears has sold more than Aretha Franklin does that mean Britney is a better singer? All female comic characters are compared to Wonder Woman. Why? Because she is an icon the whole world knows. And has been for 70 years . I'm not saying I don't like Aquaman ,but he is NOT the icon she is just because he happens to be selling more than her (for the first time ever he`s a big hit) right now. Let Johns leave that book and let's see how the series goes.
I could see that. The trinity hasn't really been established in the new 52 yet ,but Wonder Woman, Superman, and Batman are what people are used to and i always liked the idea of the trinity not being all guys. Aquaman has been a more popular character lately thanks to Geoff Johns great work and making him one of the big three might help get rid of that Aquaman hate out there. But i don't think upcoming comics show it in his favor.
@herrweis: The only thing that matters to DC is the sales, and even if Johns leaves the book it will sell well just like the GL titles do now, he's got a bigger fanbase than WW right now. Look at Marvel for example, Captain America and Hulk are Icons but Iron Man is now more popular than them. And I think there's an error in the data, because if the WW animated movie sold more than the Batman, Superman JL and GL movies then shouldn't she be the one getting more animated movies.

Guys, I was just kidding. Of course people like Aquaman. The fact he´s outselling WW at the moment is more to do with the state of her comic than anything else though. DC tried to appease new fans at the expense of old ones. Well it didn´t work. Geoff Johns is obviously doing good work on Aquaman, but that still doesn´t change the fact for me that, Aquaman will never be as iconic and generate the excitement in mainstream, that Wonder Woman does. Simple, because Wonder Woman connects not only to some comic fans, but has a huge huge fanbase amongst women, is also a symbol of power and equality, has a huge following thanks to Lynda Carter amongst the gay community and also even ethnic minorities dig her. Her comic sales are a simple reflection of bad writing at the moment or should I say "better" writing that alienates her core fans. Johns has managed to capture new Aquaman fans while retaining the old. Same thing he did with Shazaam. But still the plain fact of it is WW will always be special cause she´s a woman and as tough as the guys, but still very feminine. Aquaman is just another white dude with powers, the same argument can be made for him as any other Justice League member to be part of the trinity.
@rustyroy: its not the sales right now that justifies him as part of the trinity ,its his presence in culture that does(not just comics). And the reason that Diana doesn't have another movie is because didio said she "didn't sell fast enough " but you can look up the data yourself and see how much what has sold . But we all know the industry is chauvinistic and it keeps telling us that women just don't sell and crap like that .but if sales is the factor of who should be in the trinity then it should be a revolving door .one month it'll be batman gl and aquaman because they sold the most that month .the next batman Superman and the flash because they happened to sell more that particular month. Sounds silky doesn't it.
@herrweis: I've never said sales should be a factor of who should be in the Trinity, in fact I said Batman should not be part of the Trinity, but you said that Aquaman is a joke and won't sell if Johns doesn't write him which is incorrect, he can equally hold his own comics as well as movie just like WW can and he is a good candidate for the Trinity, I'm not saying he should be but he has the potential. Btw when did Didio said that? Do you have a link?
that was brilliant
I love this
Zeus/Hades/Poseidon
Sky/Underworld/Sea
There's also Greatness Thrust Upon/Greatness Achieved/Greatness Born
Charismatic/Rational/Traditional
Sci Fi/Mystery/Fantasy
genetics/technology/magic
House of El/House of Wayne/House of Atlan
rural area/suburban area/urban area
its perfect for it to work though a bigger deal about the Atlantean kingdom needs to made, as well as the fact as the planet is mostly water and probably give him is Lady of the Lake hand back
they could be very much like DC Illuminati, with Arthur being Black Panther in terms of resources. Besides the money like Bruce, most of the planet is his domain, technology and magic from his kingdom. he also should have a superstrong army.
Disclaimer: I am a big Wonder Woman fan, and I do not want to change the Trinity or to start a flame war. I understand the importance of Wonder Woman in comics and other media as a feminine icon, and this article is not intended to be a slight against Wonder Woman. This is a forum for peaceful dialogue.
Something that I found interesting circa 2011 was all of the talk about how Green Lantern should replace Wonder Woman in DC's Trinity. I argued against it for a few reasons, mainly for the fact that Green Lantern was a science hero. You see, I believe that there are thee ways a hero can have power: genetics (Superman/Captain America), technology (Batman/Iron Man), and magic (Wonder Woman/Thor). Each of these should be represented in the trinity, so if you want GL to be in there, then he would have to replace Superman, which shouldn't happen since Superman is the first superhero. Also, which Green Lantern should replace Wonder Woman? None of them is as well known as she is. All of this replacement talk ended after the Green Lantern film flopped, so I feel like I was on the right side of history.
But now, I'm here to start it all up again! Except this time, I'm going to say that Aquaman could replace Wonder Woman symbolically in the Trinity. By symbolically, I mean he could be a better fit for the trichotomy needed for a legendary group like the trinity. You see, Wonder Woman is not the best symbolic fit in the group because there's not easy iconic way to describe her position. Superman is Light. Batman is Dark. And Wonder Woman is? Just right? In the middle? The toke female? The Amazon? None of those really juxtaposes against light or dark well.
On the other hand, there are several iconic abstracts that Superman/Batman/Aquaman could be broken into like Zeus/Hades/Poseidon or Sky/Underworld/Sea. There's also Greatness Thrust Upon (Superman), Greatness Achieved (Batman), and Greatness Born (Aquaman). You could break them down according to Max Weber's three types of authority: Charismatic/Superman, Rational/Batman, and Traditional/Aquaman. And if you look at their color schemes, you can see that they are more different than the current Trinity. Wonder Woman and Superman wear a lot of the same colors. On the other hand, Superman, Batman, and Aquaman have one color in common (Yellow), and two personal colors (Red/Blue, Black/Grey, and Orange/Green). Their names are alphabetical A (Arthur), B (Bruce), C (Clark). They have the three types of story telling found in pulp magazines and comics: Sci Fi/Mystery/Fantasy. They have the three power origins (genetics, technology, and magic). All three come from families with power (House of El, House of Wayne, and House of Atlan). All three date back to the golden age (1939/Superman, 1940/Batman, and 1941/Aquaman). These three heroes have had more sidekicks of both genders than any other hero. One grew up in a rural area (Superman), one grew up in a suburban area (Aquaman), and the other grew up in an urban area (Batman). All three have human archenemies (Lex, Joker, Manta). In my opinion, these three are as great as a symbolic trinity gets.
Sounds good, but they will be coming for you. You made some valid points, that can't be denied!
@kasino: Nice breakdown.
Totally agree.
Interesting article OP, makes sense. I have never actually cared for the whole Trinity thing and would like to see her replaced by someone else. Unfortunately it might not happen.
