IDW to Publish BACK TO THE FUTURE Comic Series

Great Scott! Recently, when asked about doing a reboot or sequel for the Back to the Future franchise both Bob Gale and Robert Zemeckis told everyone that won't happen as long as they're alive. However, that doesn't mean we won't see a new stories in the realm of comic books.

That's right. The world of BTTF is going to be a comic book, published by IDW, who have had success in another big film franchise: Ghostbusters, according to i09. Bob Gale will be writing along with John Barber (TRANSFORMERS) and Erik Burnham (GHOSTBUSTERS) and the book will feature a rotating group of artists, kicking off with Brent Schoonover and Dan Schoening.

Each issue of the comic will consist of two different stories that revolve around the events in the BTTF Universe. The first issue will have the story of how Doc met Marty and also how Doc was involved in the Manhattan Project during WWII. This will grow the BTTF universe and answer questions some of the hardcore fans have had for years.

BACK TO THE FUTURE #1 will hit comic shops in October. Expect the series to launch on October 21, 2015, which is Back to the Future Day... The day Marty went to the future.

Man... IDW is all about the punch to the gut with nostalgia. I keep wanting more and more books from them. This especially!

the movies are classics, in my opinion the best trilogy ever.. getting more of this franchise in a different medium is only a good thing.

Don't forget the cartoon series.

I hope this comic succeeds. If you put your mind to it, you can accomplish anything, is what I have been told.

You may want to take a look at this Kickstarter project!

It won't be easy, it won't be cheap, and it certainly won't be pretty, but we're getting there.

The first movie is my favorite movie of all time and I have ZERO desire for a book like this. "Learn the backstory...." no thanks. I like for those movies to stand on their own, I don't need a Darth Vader or Boba Fett prequel backstory.

10k's still a bit too much for my liking and budget. Once they're going into mass production (wishful thinking here) and lower the costs and selling price to let's say $500 I'll be all-in and all-(h)over the board.

I've always thought Marty McFly would make a good comic book character. I hope we get a badass Marty from the future coming back to warn young Marty about a threat... I hope he has a sword to.
