'Gotham' Season 2 Villains Rising Promo Features Joker and More

Gotham returns with its second season in September. With a lot of the characters established in the first season along with some minor cliffhangers we were left with, there's the chance for the series to move forward to flesh out the characters and bring in new ones.

Over the weekend, a promo was released focusing on the "Villains Rising." One of the main things you'll see in this promo is the appearance of what might turn out to be Joker.

Cameron Monaghan first appeared in Episode 16, "The Blind Fortune Teller." While it wasn't officially declared within the show that this character was the Joker, it sure looks like they're playing it that way for viewers.

He's not the only villain in the show as Penguin as continued his rise during the first season and now we have the Riddler ready to play a bigger role. At least Jim Gordon can be thankful Michael Chiklis is coming on as Captain Nathaniel Barnes to help turn things around in the GCPD.

Gotham returns on Monday, September 21. Are you going to watch?

that was too much. Not in a good way. So they're just doubling down on the things that are wrong with the show? I know Villains draw a crowd but whats the point if you're just going by numbers without any quality in story?

This show will probably get another season too out of this.

Well, it's official. Season 2 is just a Joker origin story.

Ooooooh that Joker kid's acting hurts. Maybe the editor of this trailer just isn't doing him justice, but yeeesh that's the worst Cesar Romero impression I've seen in a while.

Now it turns out it's not even the Joker....

Should I watch the promo or not... Well at least the rest of my family likes the show. I'm just confused by it.

Think it did a good job of blending a cop drama with Comic storylines. It did enough right that i enjoyed season 1. Not saying it was the greatest show out, but it did enough good (Penguin and the Mob) to overcome the bad (everything about Bruce and Selina).

Nope.

I don't understand the hate for the show. I understand it's flaws, but it's not like Arrow doesn't have it's fair share of problems, and that's super popular on this site.

The show has had consistent twists and turns. The characters are interesting though sadly Gordon is the least developed of them, and that IS a problem. Many villains are well represented. The tone is unique.

I don't get the hate, especially since the most consistent complaint I hear is about continuity, and every comic book adaption every produced has messed with continuity, so why do you care specifically about the changes in this show?

If they are already reaching for Joker then this series was never really going to be about the Gotham police department. I don't understand what it is about Gotham that has been enjoyable for some people.

I could care less what the community at comic vine has to say about this show. The ratings clearly disagree with the majority of people here, in fact...I'm pretty sure it received the highest viewer ratings of any comic book show on tv this past year. I don't understand the hate either....but we all have our tastes and there is nothing wrong with that.

Time will tell if it stays popular, but I'm enjoying the ride!

I liked Gordon & the Penguin & I actually really liked how they did Harley Quin being Barbara. The show WORKS if you just tell yourself Ben McCenzie is playing pre-Batman Bruce Wayne, & not Gordon. With the stuff with Kid Bruce stuff being a flashback like in Arrow. Otherwise you learn Batman is beating up on a bunch of old senior-citizen criminals.

If you want to make a proper Batman series, make a batman series proper.
Maybe its the Bat Embargo issue, but I doubt anyone will complain about having a movie batman and a TV batman and not get confused.

They keep using Batman elements everywhere and pretend they are good at making other superhero.

Cameron Monoaghan was probably the only actor who did the character justice in the first season and he did it with only two minutes of screen-time. Something the guy who plays Penguin or the guy who plays Riddler or the chick who plays Catwoman can't do with entire episodes. Although I will admit some of them are trying their hardest to make the bad writing work.

I lost all interest for the show by episode 18 of the first season. I'll probably be skipping this season, but I look forward to watching all of Jerome's scenes on Youtube.

I will never understand how fox cancels some of the shows it does and keeps others going.

Joker was the red hood before he become the Joker, not the Joker.

Joker is supposed to be a mystery character, judging by his dark past. I can't believe they're including him that early way before Bruce becomes Batman.

You know what's crazy? They had Ed Brubaker's Gotham Central, and they thought Gotham the TV show was a better story......

You know if everyone lets out a sigh whenever an epsiode cuts to the main characters freak of the week plot and the only plot that moves onward is that of the villains infighting, maybe you should consider cutting the cop drama out and just making a show about villains fighting for control of the underworld. Then we could get spared of the supervillain daddies too. In this universe Batman figures out his villains idenities by checking, the relatives of the guys Gordon dealt with over a decade before. Scarecrow, Black Mask, James Gordon Jr., yes all their parents were psychos with similiar obsessions.
