This is a respect thread to your favorite Hero that no one knows about. This is a shutout to the heros that never had an ongoing title, that never had the recognition they deserved, but there is something about them that made them awesome to their fans. The heroes that had a story that made you love them, maybe multiple stories but they are not well known to even regular comic readers. Characters like Invincible, Savage Dragon and Tony Chu may not be known to the general public, but comic readers know them. Im looking for the comic heroes that are even obscure to comic fans. No Wolverine, no Hulk, or Wonder Woman. Heres to you guys! I will start off with The Confessor from Astro City. The dark hero of the alley ways and the Cathedral in Astro City, the Confessor not only had an awesome look and costume design, he had one of the best story arcs from Astro City and one of the best Kurt Busiek stories ever.

So who ya got?

@jonny_anonymous: I dig it man. You have to know what your getting into, its about taking classic super hero archetypes and remaking them in a world where you dont have to worry about continuity and all that comes with it. Its great super hero stories with a focus on characters and their views on what living in a wolrd fileld with capes is like while still trying to be classic. The 1st trade Life in the Big City is good and a collection of stories to get you familiar to the world "Astro city" being the city where most of the super heroes do their work. But the second trade is fantastic called Confession. Seriously one of my favorite books of my childhood. I highly recommend that and the Dark age books which tell the rales of the gritty 70s astro city when heroes were looked down upon. If you want I cant tell you more details about reading order and whats good and whats only so so. All in all though its one of my favorite series.

@savagedragon: it all sounds and looks really cool, makes me think of the Kirbyverse over at Dynamite

#14 Posted by Billy Batson (58309 posts) - - Show Bio

Yeah, the Confessor is pretty cool.

I'll say Paradax!

@savagedragon: is Astro City good?

It's very good. It's reconstruction of superheroes (the opposite of Watchmen).

And the best part is that you can pick up any of the stories randomly and you don't feel lost.

And it's returning in the summer via Vertigo :)

I would like to see some more Ragman. Could be a good addition to Justice League Dark, and I've seen people mention he could be a supporting character in Batwoman. I'd probably be O.K. with either. :)

Ragman always seems like a poor version of the Spectre to me. (because of the costume)

@knightrise: He is a character created by Kurt Busiek and Brent Anderson. Hes a hero from Astro City Volume 2 Confession (excellent book). Hes like a Batman archetype but with a dark secret. The story is told from the perspective of his new side kick.
