Of the ones listed, Dragonball is the only one I've watched. But I actually enjoyed the original Dragonball and the early parts of DBZ (before it drowned in excess).
@dccomicsrule2011: Ah, thanks.
@dboyrules2011: Disgusting!
Tie between The Count of Monte Crisco and Kino's Journey, though, I will say the second series is often interchangable with Mushishi, Kaiba, NGE and Welcome to the NHK.Of your choices, none of those series are in my top 100's, hell 3 of them aren't even in my top ten Shonen's, but I guess I did,and to a much lesser extent still do, have love for Naruto.
Edit: I also loved Kids on a Slope FAAAR more than I should have.
@johnfrank120: Not you again. >_<

One Piece is quite easily the best out of the list. (FMA, Rurouni Kenshin, Code Geass & Steins;Gate are also my favourites.) It has the best world-building, one of the most intricate plots in not just anime, but entertainment in general. The Strawhats are great protagonists, and there is a wide variety of characters and a great combination of genres across the board.
Of course DBZ still has its strong nostalgic hold over the West, but it is actually just average or below par in many categories. Bleach had a great start, but Kubo's trolling got out of hand. Naruto is very good for the most part, but some of the developments in the war left a lot of fans disappointed. Fairy Tail hardly comes into the picture because of Mashima's second rate writing, but it does pull in its fair share of fans riding on the coattails of the others.
@dboyrules2011: No need for my denial.
@johnfrank120: Silence, mate. You're evil for dissing what I like. >:P

I know you're just joking, but honestly half the series I've mention are relatively mainstream if you're somewhat invested within the sphere of anime; hell, NGE is probably one of the most recognizable series of all time, anime fan or not .The only series I'd consider "underground" would be "Kino's Journey" and "Kaiba".
If I was a real elitist, I'd also call out people who think One Piece is worth a spit.
In all honestly, Bleach was a very well written manga series during the Soul Society arc...afterwards, while I still enjoyed it, it was nowhere near as good as the aforesaid story-line, from an objective standpoint, IMO.

Are you trying to convince us or yourself ? :P

@thatguywithheadphones: Damn it, Shows how much I know, huh?

DBZ is still my favorite anime, but Cowboy Bebop, Gundam Wing, Trigun...I watched a little bit of Bleach on Netflix at one point and while it wasn't bad it wasn't something I felt compelled to continue. Gurren Lagann was pretty good, as were some of the Tenchi series'.
But most anime I try I just can't enjoy for some reason.
DBZ is still my favorite anime
Where's Berserk?
All of Berserk's anime adaptation has been pretty mediocre so far; the movie was okay, but the CGI definitely ruined it.
