The economics would be tricky, but do you ever see the modern Marvel studios going for an R rating on a small budget movie?

If so, which character would you most like be represented on screen in R rated fashion? I think a Punisher movie has the potential to be really good. Especially if they follow the War Journal stories.

I'd like to see them handle a Ghost Rider, Punisher, or Blade R-rated movie.

R rated films are a no go in the superhero movie scene.

Its possible, but it has to be the right character. Also I think if it was going to be R-Rated it would be released as a Marvel Knights/Max/Ultimate header instead of just Marvel Studios.

Going to be a lot of people come to this thread and say they won't because Disney owns them, well don't forget Miramax produced Pulp Fiction and Kids (a film to get the NC-17 rating) and Disney Corp owned Miramax at the time.

Probably, but there are already some R-rated comic book movies (Dredd, Blade, Punisher, Watchmen etc.). I hope Marvel Studios takes that extra leap toward an adult audience for some movies.

I know, right? I'd love a Midnight Sons movie; think an R-rated Avengers. It could be completely separate from the main MCU.

@force_echo: it'd be cool if they made a sub division for there movies and called it MAX based off there MAX explicit comic line

SO when the Marvel studios logo would pop up on the screen at the beginning and under ti would say MAX in big letters.

Rated R films have a smaller audience and thus will make less money.

They're not interested in that.

It'd be nice to see them take the occasional risk, though.

Would have been more of a risk if it didn't... feel so much like a Marvel Movie. That's why I love Winter Soldier so much: it's by far the most unique movie in the MCU so far. Didn't go for nearly as many cheap jokes or colorful character traits. If done well, Dr. Strange might be the more "risky" movie, because - again, if done right - he is the least like the other superheroes.

... that said, I might like GotG more than Avengers... >_>

Actually I heard quite the opposite, that it might be PG13.

However, now that Disney owns everything, I want to see even how many limbs we see cut off in the new Star Wars movies.

Like others have said, Punisher, but that was Fox, IIRC. I think there are some characters that would be hard to NOT make a rated-R movie about (i.e. Moon Knight).

@fallschirmjager: Right, but a movie like Punisher or Daredevil is going to have a FAR smaller budget than some behemoth like the Avengers, and if it's good, they would definitely make money, off of a smaller, and more dedicated audience.

I suspect they will. They have the Punisher rights back after all.

And for people saying they wont because it's disney....

Disney owned Miramax for years. Miramax made plenty of R rated movies

That would just be spot on.

It's a possibility.

I would love to see new movie adaptations of the Punisher and Blade get made but it's best for those characters and other violent characters get Netflix shows.

Marvel zombies will never happen.

They could remake Ghost Rider. I hope.

Aren't they making a doctor strange movie sometime after avengers 2 or fantastic four?
