Or because of the Comics Code Authority.

The reason Superhero comics lost their momentum was CCA so I don't think that's it.
And half a century after that I don't think the CCA is the reason people don't read Image or dynamite as much as DC/Marvel. People aren't interested to read these comics no matter how good they are and with the cost of following a comic book and not watch a TV series of a similar genre at home makes it worse.

Yea before the CCA the bedrock of comics and the most popular were westerns, horror and crime comics but after the Comics Code crippled those genres the superhero began to take over

Id rather read about thanos or wolverine or adam warlock or dr doom.

Id rather not read charlie brown, archie, or the walking dead.

Whats the point of comics if its average joe stuff? No one would read wolverine comics if he didnt have his claws and healing powers. He'd just be a short canadian hobo

Superhero comics monopolize the industry because they have sold better than any other genre for a long time.

Fans on sites like this keep promoting Superheroes over other genres, hence a snowball effect.

The same fans who promote the TMNT, Saga etc. who complain about the mediocrity of most superhero titles.
Most new reader threads begin with "where to start reading *name* " , that reasoning has a solid base but it can't be a number 1 reason although it certaintly plays a part.

Because most of the comic book fans only care to read & promote just Superhero comics .Even though comics can encompass all types of genres & there are tons of great non-superhero comics out there they always get sidelined for the Superhero comics. Its one of the reasons why Garth Ennis hates Superheroes so much.

Ennis doesn't hate superheroes, he just doesn't care about them like others because he grew up with 2000AD and the likes.

Yep i read that he doesn't really hates superheroes thingin couple of his interviews but he also says that its frustrates him that genre has taken over comic book industry & hard to get good material out of them & in his work the way he goes to extreme length to prove its like he really have intense hatred towards superheroes for which he keeps on parodying & mocking them. From Wolverine, Green Lantern, Captain America, Wally West even Batman ended up getting puked upon & humiliated . His work in The Pro, Hitman, Punisher & The Boys which is the biggest mockery of Superheroes where he keeps telling everyone "look Superheroes are a bad product ,they're incompetent, they're pathetic & never trust them with your life." Though Spiderman & especially Superman are rare exception where he respected & showed them as genuine good guys.

The Monopoly of Super-hero comics is only an american thing. French-Belgian-European comics hardly have super-heroes some of the biggest companies don't even have a single one published other then translations of marvel stuff.

The Asian market is similar, producing a vas majority of genres.

People saying super-heroes dominate the market are basically only talking about the American market
