This its a thread to see your opinion, on why the modern movies got so bad, even when they should get better, since we have better stuntpeople, better technology and well a bunch of great things.

I mean The Raid and others, just simply show how bad action movies got, by being so incredibly good, show that movies got worst with time.

It's just my opinion but modern action films have actually gotten better.

There's the Transporter series which is fun.

The Fast and Furious films got waay better.

The Scorpion King was fun.

Again, my opinion.

I really enjoyed the Raid as far as action films go. Transporter, Scorpion King and Fast & Furious was all fun to watch. There is just more to choose from now. back in teh day the only good action films were die hard & Lethal Weapon. Don't mention Rambo to me.

Yeah modern action movies suck so bad there are some exceptions like taken and the first expendables but most modern action movies barely have any blood and are all pg 13 not to mention unoriginal and the main hero is always a total pu$$y.

Live Free or Die Hard is arguably as good as the first, and this comes from perhaps the biggest Die Hard fanboy around. Expendables are all solid, over-the-top action. Shoot'em Up is absurdly over the top action and is still great.

I can go on, but my point is this: yes, there are many sh*tty action movies these days. But that's always been the case in action. For every Die Hard and Lethal Weapon you get three Point Breaks (yep, didn't like that one).

And it has nothing to do with toned down violence. Live Free or Die Hard almost had an R rating, till they edited out most of the swearing. Expendables 1 & 2 were both R affairs and the third wasn't, and the level of blood and violence was exactly the same. If Die Hard were remade today without the swearing and nudity, it'd be PG13. You can just get away with more, you need Tarantino level violence to be R based on that or have gratuitous gore like a Saw movie. Which frankly isn't a requirement for a good movie, any movie, let alone good action flick.

Just my two cents, I'm sure plenty will disagree.

Lack of simplistic plots

Too much moving camera shots

Lack of sales for R-rated movies, forcing most of them to be PG-13

You're simplifying it. It's more of when they killed the dog and what the dog represented.

It still does not give him a reason to go on a rampage and kill half the city.

Watch John Wick best action movie of 2014

I did watched, but sadly many people try to convince themselves that because it didnt had CGI and poor action directing it was a bad action movie.

He is doing straight to dvd action movies, that are better that theater action movies.

He made one great one some time ago, he deal with being too old to keep doing this sh1t.

@granitesoldier: Oooh my God! Live Free was the Shifu!! Oh and John Wick. John Wick is by far the best action film of 2014, however I have yet to see Raid 2

The Raid 2 its amazing, not as good as The Raid one, but still an amazing movie that point how Hollywood is way behind.

Killing a dog its a joke about how evil a villain is, thats why in Kick Ass 2 M0t#3rfv(k3r say he isnt going to kill the dog, because he isnt a monster.

I think the problem isn't modern action movies it's just that directing action movies isn't something all directors can do. like 3 days to kill where the director tried to make it this fun action movie and made it so cheesy. plus all the parts with the main character and his daughter didn't fit with the cheesy action movie.

Let's be honest with ourselves, all old school movies sucked. People complaining about John Wick being stupid must not have watched every 80's movie ever.

Remember American Ninja?? An Amnesiac taught Ninjitsu in the woods as becomes a commando (even though he had no address or last name yet was allowed into the US Military) and battles a ninja crime syndicate.

Remember Out for Justice? Steven should have been shot so many times it's ridiculous. Hell, he should have been fired, Dude broke so many laws, including physics and civil rights.

Don't even get me started on Sam Jackson's Shaft. Dude wasn't hurt at all even after being in a car that flipped like four times.

I don't think they do. Bond, Bourne, Captain America, The Raid, Django Unchained, The Dark Knight, Taken etc.

@granitesoldier: The only time he attempted to "act" was Out for Justice, when he did the Damn Italian American accent. "Anybody seen Richie?" Lol

Ironically Glimmer Man was his best in my opinion yet grossed less than the others.

That movie actually had a competent plot.

See, that's why I don't hate Arrow. Stephen is a great guy, puts his heart into the stunt work, and is like Al Pachino by comparison.

Escape from New York was good classic Carpenter. L.A. was too goofy for me.

Anything Tom Cruise has been in recently has been pretty damn good (Jack Reacher, MI4, and Edge of Tomorrow).

Not to mention John Wick and the Raid films.

Snake would win in a fight*, yes, but Jack is a much cooler character.

I think I saw it on Netflix still. I will view it with your great recommendation.

And LA was goofier, but I felt it fit. Given the whole stereotype of the west coast and Hollywood at the time.

It's one of my favorite movies. Let me know what you think once you get around to seeing it.

When I think of L.A. or the West coast, Tool's Aenima is the only thing that does it justice. "Learn to swim."
