Why is it "Hail HYDRA" and not "Heil HYDRA?"

Heil is the actual Nazi salute. And...y'know...HYDRA are Nazis.

Spelling reasons. You know how Grey and Gray are both correct? color, and colour? Since it's an American comic, we spell it like Hail.

@_atomikill_: But "heil" is specific to the pan-German movement, and was only used in tandem with "Heil Hitler" or "Heil mein Fuhrer." It's a Nazi Germany thing, it isn't just an alternate spelling. In fact, they're pronounced slightly differently as well.

In response to your edit: I'm not sure Heil is actually the German word for Hail. I know the other kind of Hail is Hagel, and that Heil is really only associated as having to do with Nazi Germany.

@jaken7: "hail hydra" came from the HYDRA oath. HYDRA's leader may have supported the nazi but it has grown beyond its nazi confines.

@jaken7: I think it's because they're speaking English and not German.

@kyrees: Thier leader doesn't just support the Nazis, he is a Nazi. Not to mention it started out in Nazi Germany during WWII.

@kyrees: The history before HYDRA's WWII revival was murky at best, and most likely wasnt even called HYDRA. Besides, the organization back in ancient Egypt was a mere shadow of what HYDRA would eventually become. I'm sure the oath originated from Strucker and his Nazi days.
