Why hasn't there been a live action Batman TV Show?

I probably made a thread on this already but I can't find it anywhere so I just decided to make a new one.

I mean DC/WB or whoever can let people make like a Supergirl show and Teen Titans show (no disrespect to those characters) but not a Batman show?! Plus it would pretty much be guaranteed at least a full season by itself. And apparently shows like The Flash and Arrow can't even name drop Gotham or Metropolis. Why is that??

Also, do you guys think that we will ever get a live action Batman show?

I believe you did already make a thread on this (or someone else did). With Dawn of Justice nearly a year away, Batman will have four cinematic appearances within the past decade.

There's already enough of him out there, and that's not including things like the Arkham games, animated films, and spin-offs like Gotham.

All fair points.

Though, us as fans didn't really ask for Gotham. And I'm talking about the show being made after the Arkham games are all done.

Gonna take a stab and say he wants broody "Dark Knight," as opposed to campy "Caped Crusader."

Personally, I'm all down for more camp, but that's me.

And I assume it's something to do with DC wanting to save Batman only for animated and movie stuff. I guess they think he's too good for television...

Yet not too good for mediocre animated movies that are mainly about Robin? Oh well, to each their own I guess :/

@deathstroke52: There's also Affleck undoubtedly getting a few of his own Batman movies after Dawn of Justice, and there's been speculation that WB Montreal could produce their own Origins trilogy after Arkham Knight.

I think more shows borrowing the mythos is as close as we'd get. Apparently, WB doesn't even want CW to use Nightwing, so I doubt a Batman TV show is at the top of their priorities.

But doesn't Robin eventually become Nightwing in Titans anyway?

In general, I think that's a combination of pushing an agenda to get Damien out in the mainstream eye as the son of Batman/Robin, considering he's getting a solo later this year, and plus you could slap Batman on just about anything and it should sell reasonably well and it's easier for them to do an animated movie than it is a live-action series.

But I don't think that would be very smart because while it would take a long time, a television series would be much more rewarding than an animated movie.

Yeah but nobody really wanted Gotham.

On the other hand, many people want(ed) an actual Batman show.

Perhaps, but that's mostly if it was good. A bad cartoon appearance can haunt a character for a long time (see: Aquaman.) There's less risk going into an Animated movie, and the way DC has it set up, they could fix any problems in what would probably be the next outing.

Honestly, both have their benefits. Static, for example, thrived as an animated series. Green Arrow and The Flash are killing it in their series. Batman already has huge fanbase. It's just DC would take the cheaper, slightly less effective route. Still adds up to oodles of money either way for them.

This thought (Batman TV Show) crossed my mind again so I was going to go search my previous threads for it but I couldn't find it anywhere.

I already stated in the OP that I know I've made at least one thread like this before.

Sorry for any inconvenience.

That second one of mine isn't about the question of why there isn't a Batman show.

I'd say its probably a combination of oversaturation and the fact that the Batman people want may not necessarily translate well into a live action television series. What I mean by that is Batman isn't very social and if you don't include the Bat-family, his supporting cast gets dwindled down considerably. While that works in a movie format, that can only work for so long in a television format. Although, if they did a show that focused on Bruce Wayne as much as they did Batman, that could make for some interesting development.

the producers of Gotham wanted to make it a batman show but they were denied so they made him a kid and followed Jim Gordan instead. that's the closest WB will ever let anyone get.

I'm not for over-saturating him. I would rather like to see DC/WB make a great TV show than mediocre, rushed animated movies every year.

@y2g: yeah. I don't want to say it's too late now but they already have so many animated movies and cinematic movies planned that it would be over-saturating a bit.

IMO they should cut down on the Bat-Family centered animated movies, then in a few years, make a show so it doesn't seem like we are getting "too much" of Batman.
