Why doesn't Batman make a jetpack?

I mean, he can make a huge, high tech suit, and he could make devices and gadgets to hold off the likes of Superman, but he resorts to a simple grappling hook to travel though the high airs? It's really unreliable and there is no way he could travel that high/fast if he was in a setting like a desert. I understand he has a Bat-Copter or something like that, but that's not portable and convenient. Heck, he could make himself a pair of gravity-defying boots and make himself fly. He has created more complex machines.

He probably has one but saves it for when he really needs it.

Then I wonder what classifies as "really needing it" when there was countless encounters that decided the fate of the Earth, and he still used his grappling hooks.

The Insider Suit is far more complex than a pair of jetpacks.

But, in a way, you may be correct. It may not be in Batman's style, like his morals for not killing. Maybe he feels like an actual bat more with only grappling hooks?

I've said it before, I'll say it again: Batman doesn't give himself anything that would replicate superpowers because he knows it would be unfair to the rest of the universe.

I know what the movie is, I have it on DVD, I havnt watched it in a long time. When specifically in the movie did he need a jetpack? Aren't most of his teammates capable of flight? Couldn't they y'know just catch him. And to supplemt jobiwankenobi's statement, he also does in the DCAU.

Jetpacks aren't as cool as grappling hooks.

Yeah you've got a point. I guess it just feels like he's iron man once you reach a certain point. Batman is supposed to be a perfect blend of physical and mental prowess. Plus the grappling hook adds a certain elegance. So you have a point in saying that from a practical viewpoint better tech makes more sense, but from a thematic/creative viewpoint, the grappling hook is the way to go.

But yeah he already sorta has a jetpack suit, but only uses it for emergencies

Bats glide across the night sky,not shoot across it like a rocket, hence he has grappling hooks and a cape that doubles as a glider.

Why doesn't Superman fly across the world and stop every "common" criminal (and most metahuman criminals) in a single night due to his incredible reflexes and speed? Why doesn't Barry Allen?

If we start to question comics then it all falls apart...

A jet pack would be heavy, and would really limit his on the ground mobility and H2H (can't do flips or high kicks as well, etc). I think Bats would rather have to use his grapple (which also doubles as a weapon, unlike a jetpack) than impose a handicap on himself.

ha has many jetpacks, it's simply not a piece of his normal gear

A bat glides, save the jet pack for batman beyond, its more fitting .

He has... but yeah he dosen't use it often. Possibly to remain stealthy or the risk it might explode on him if shot at

Jetpacks would make himself obvious. Also he would easily get shot down in the air.

I figure it's because he wants to be at ground level so he can deal with what's in front of him. Same reason he doesn't use the batwing I guess.

It's not really a practical piece of equipment.

Bruce is all about stealth, and a jetpack would give away his position and even make him an easier target for people like Deadshot. Also along with his suit being armored I feel like the extra weight may be a choir to lug around...even for Batman.

Grappling hooks are awesome! It gives him more stealth fighting capabilities and who wouldn't want batmans grappling hook? When he uses to fight it looks cool if he had a jet pack he would just fly fast at enemies like a certain other hero

Stealth is probably the main thing stopping him.

Also Batman has to balance how high tech he gets carefully. People already complain that he's relying too much on his gadgets in the New 52, can you imagine the reaction if he went all out with jetpacks and anti-gravity boots or power armor? That just wouldn't be Batman anymore.

All I have to say is........batman beyond.

The better question why doesn't he steal the formula to make those Supermen pills so DC can get it over with giving Batman superman like powers. Than Bat fans proclaim him as the be all end all of super heroes even in powers.

I don't think it's for actual practical consideration. I mean, most of the stuff he does would be hindered by the armor he wears, I don't think that a small jetpack is much worse. I agree with those who talked about the cool factor and keeping the character image close to what the fans want.
