DC Comics has a ways to go as well, but it is infinitely harder to think of top of the line black heroes in Marvel than in DC. In DC, I can think of Val Zod, Icon, Blackracer,Tyroc, Ambrose Chase, Josiah Power, N52 Wally West, Danica Williams, XS, Firestorm, Superman (earth 23), Marella, Virtue, John Stewart, Sunshine Superman, Nu'bia (and her earth 23 counterpart), Coldcast, DMZ, Battalion, Jet, etc. For Marvel, I can only think of Maxam, Blue Marvel, Phastos, Fred, Storm, and Pulsar (and a few others).
Why does Marvel not make powerful black heroes?
@blackwind: true but still I want to see some black powerhouses.
Well there also is Brother Voodoo, Tyrone Cash, War Machine, he isn't a main character but that Black Atlantean whom fought Wolverine. When Blade became switchblade he was pretty powerful.
That's it.
Black Panther is one of the top and arguably the top street leveler. He's taken down demons and higher tier characters with intellect and preparation.
Storm is very powerful. Blue Marvel is a high tier. War Machine? All are pretty powerful.
But a well written and engaging character is the best kind, who cares about power levels? I'll take a Black Panther or Blade book over one featuring Storm, Blue Marvel, or War Machine any day.
Why does it matter if Marvel doesn't make their black heroes as powerful(on the whole) as other companies? Marvel tends to make weaker heroes than DC period. As has been mentioned Blue Marvel is pretty powerful. The average superhero in Marvel comics is around Black Panther's levels so yeah. Plus does it matter more that they are powerful or that they are good characters? Black Panther is one of my favorite superheroes of all time and is definitely Top 5 period. No other Black superhero has been even in his league of awesomeness.
Blue Marvel is all Marvel needs since he is able to fuse antimatter with his fists he became omnipotent.

You need a black super hero full of power? Why not Power Man?
I've already listed him
@citizensentry: I think I'll just call him Luke

How many of DCs Black Heroes matter at this point?
In terms of superpowerful there is Blue Marvel and Monica Rambeau who totally should have ongoings. Then there is Storm who is an alpha level mutant with omega potential. On a side note monica is pretty underrated and gets shafted a lot which sucks
most black superheroes are at the most high tier street level. but really powerful ones are few in number
DC makes powerful black characters but really doesn't do anything with them beyond the story the debuted in
Storm and Blue Marvel?
How would you fix it just make up more black characters or change the race of already existing ones?
Such a great deficit from so many years of not being written as heroes. Sadly it will be a continual process of building up a character that will be believable. You can't just create a black hero and expect people to automatically get behind it. Especially in comics where only the headliners really get real steam, it is difficult for a new character of any race get built up.
