Only for people who dont read the "other" company

  1. Why dont you read the other company exactly
  2. Have you read anything from the other company
  3. Where do you get your info about the other company
  4. Are you willing to give the other compayn a chance

If its for monetary reasons, then it doesnt matter. Im only talking about personal preference

Yes (well i guess you were joking about that)

But im asking the dc/marvel fanboys why they stick to one company only, not why dont they read image, valiant or others

Marvel's general quality is abysmal, and DC has a few decent titles.

I can only afford to get so many comics so I decided to get comics from Marvel and the occasional TPB from DC. I went for Marvel in the first place because I prefer the characters and it has better continuity.

Im not getting the kind of audience i wanted to be honest lol...

Yeah, originally I wanted nothing to do with DC because I hadn't really experience much of it and I thought everyone to be too overpowered to be enjoyable (that may sound odd from a Hulk fan but I have my reasons). It was through this site that people gradually got me to try out a bit more DC.

Used to be a DC purist up until a week ago. Mainly for budgetary reasons, and I figured if I can only get 8-10 books a month they might as well be in the same universe.

Then I realized that I really don't give a @#!% for Green Lantern, and I don't think DC's lesser heroes get the creative talent they deserve (outside the rotworld books). So I've been on a Marvel binge lately, and I'm going to start following three of the Marvel Now line of offerings. We'll see how it goes.

Pull-list

DC

1) Justice League

2) Batman

3) Detective Comics

4) Flash

5) All-Star Western

6) Sword of Sorcery

7) Applicable tie-in books

MARVEL

1) Fantastic Four

2) Deadpool

3) Indestructible Hulk

4) Hawkeye

5) Applicable tie-in books

  1. Why dont you read the other company exactly: Because I don't find their comics interesting enough without usually being dark and depressing, not the kind of dark and depressing that Batman brings, but the kind of dark and depressing like "oh, we're all gonna die. This sucks." The characters are often also whiny or act stupidly, more often IMO than some of DC's characters. Not like, I think Stark is a stupid character like some people think Batman or Superman is a stupid character, but their characters act stupidly more often, it seems.
  2. Have you read anything from the other company: Yup! I've got the first three issues of Peter Parker, the Spectacular Spider Man, and I've got assorted issues of the travesty that was AvX.
  3. Where do you get your info about the other company: By reading/watching their stuff for myself. I just really don't like Marvel that much. They've got some characters/stories that I really enjoy, but they've got plenty more reasons why I don't enjoy the company.
  4. Are you willing to give the other compayn a chance: Not really, unless they change and become more like DC, which defeats the purpose of being a separate company. Marvel appeals to some people, just not me. IMO, Marvel sucks a big hairy one, overall. So much so, that if they combined Marvel and DC, it would not make Marvel better for me wanting to read it, it would make DC worse. I just don't think Marvel has the formula for comic books and stories that I enjoy. Their movies are getting to be amazing, though.

1 - I grew up with DC characters via TV and the person who really got me into comics mostly reads DC. Also, I generally don't find Marvel's headliners appealing

2 - No, but I know enough about the concepts and execution of said concepts to have a general understanding

3 - Mainstream appearances, wikis, friends who are into Marvel, etc

4 - If DC keeps up their shenanigans, possibly. Of course I'd probably try Image, Valiant, etc before Marvel.

#16 Posted by cloudzackvincent (783 posts) - 6 months, 2 days ago - Show Bio

i mainly read dc... and a couple of big marvel storylines... i also read a couple of books from other companies like witchblade, red sonja, fathom, irredeemable every now and then. as for ur questions

1. i can only read so much every week... reading 27 of the new 52 titles plus a few other books... so dont really have the time

2. yes ..few big stories like civil war, world war hulk, chaos war, secret invasion, war of the kings and siege...i think chaos war was the last marvel book i read

3.comicvine, but i m not really interested to know about the other company since i don't post in battles where marvel characters are involved

4.not in the near future, not because i dont like their stories but because i would like to keep reading dc for the time being

This sums it up for me. Though I did use to just read DC. Before the New 52, I only ever read JMS' Thor 1-12 and 600-602, one issue of Hulk and Secret Invasion. Now I'm more balanced in my reading. 4 DC comics, 3 Marvel and 1 IDW title.

There are plenty who would disagree with you. Image, Dark Horse and IDW spring to mind. And some who would argue that the other companies are superior to the Big Two. Though not me.

Not really. I'm open-minded.

#20 Posted by GunGunW (852 posts) - 6 months, 2 days ago - Show Bio

It's not being close-minded to only read one company, I have no idea why people keep saying that. But anyway, I only read DC because I don't have a large comic budget and I will occasionally buy Superman, Action Comics, and Justice League. Most of the time not even that, just the new issue of Superman, and most of the time not even that. Just nothing. I just bought a few comics for the first time in over a year. If I had a bigger budgets I'd read Captain America and maybe Avengers as well.

I currently only read DC i used to read x-men when i was younger, but i got into DC when i got older. I recently started reading Uncanny X-force and Uncanny X-men because i wanted to get back into X-books again

Up until NOW!, I though DC was dishing out superior products. But I'M SWITCHING OVER BABY!! To the dark side. Yes I was DC exclusive too. Now, it just seems that Marvel is the only one that knows what the heck it wants, and how to please.

They just make better stuff.

When I was a kid in the bronze age, I did not have enough money to buy too many comics so I just chose 1 company and the decision has stuck.

I read DC

  1. Due to budget issues,I can afford 5 titles per month MAX.
  2. I have many comics from DC,VERTIGO,MARVEL
  3. Comic sites, wikis and i download some titles here and then..........................DON'T JUDGE ME!
  4. Definetely, when it start appeal to me again more than the other company

At the moment 8 books out of ten that i read are from one company. I havent enough free time to read every book i'm interested in, so i select those i like the most. I try to read the others when i'm on vacation.

here is my pull-list (I'm not counting Bat-titles):

DC:

Justice league

Nightwing

Action Comics

Suicide Squad

Aquaman

Marvel:

Daredevil

ASM

Gambit

Uncanny X-force

Deadpool

  1. Preference (I prefer DC's more old fashioned brand of Science Fiction)
  2. Cost Effective
  3. Easier to keep up on continuity
#34 Posted by Sinfulplayerx (193 posts) - 5 months, 29 days ago - Show Bio

I choose to collect Marvel comics. My pull list is already @ 27 regular comics and that's not accounting mini/event series titles. If I started to collect DC too...... I'm not gonna kid my self..... I would have to double that pull list. I have to draw the line somewhere. Marvel just has more of the characters that I enjoyed since I was a kid.

  1. Why don't you read the other company exactly: I've given Marvel a chance during the Civil War and Age of M, but I didn't find the stories that appealing. They seemed to be going somewhere interesting, but they didn't. Felt like I wasted my time. At least with DC the conclusions to their stories make sense.
  2. Have you read anything from the other company: Yup! Look at question #1.
  3. Where do you get your info about the other company: Right now, the tv shows and movies. I've heard about new series like Marvel NOW and Ultimates, but I see nothing compelling me to give them a try.
  4. Are you willing to give the other company a chance: Yes, if I see fan enthusiasm for the company increase the way it did for New 52.
