I'm talking Transformes and such.
WHY?
So we can b%tch about it? Do we hope that we are wrong? Addiction?
I gave up on the Transformers franchise after I watched the trailer for the second film. First one isn't that bad. But I've done a great job in the last few years at avoiding horrible films. Think that last one bad movie I went to go see was Horrible Bosses and it wasn't my idea to go see that movie.
Films like Bay's Transformers movies are supposed to appeal to the lowest common denominator. They're not supposed to be good films, they're supposed to be fun-looking films. Nobody goes to watch any of those movies expecting to see the next Godfather, they're just looking for a good time.
Transformers aren't bad movies. People need to start distinguishing between literary work (i.e stuff that is meant to be analyzed and be deeper) and entertainment (stuff that is meant to just be fun). Transformers is fun, no matter how many critics try to deny it. I don't watch those movies to see a Morrison deconstruction of morality and existence I watch it for the giant robot fights.
edit- In fact this is the main problem I had with Winter Soldier, it tried to be more than just an entertaining movie and it half-as#ed it.

My thoughts exactly.
@waezi2: Well most movies now days are very mediocre IMO and I think the general audience just are used to mediocre movies not just Transformers though

Same, why is it so wrong to watch a good action movie these days?
The Transformers movies were great. Tons of fun.
Why do we keep putting these pretentious movies on a pedestal as if they're more important than the movies that just want to entertain?
Bayformers sucks balls and people need to stop defending them.
Deefendur: but, lol, it's the action movie!
Bayformers isn't fit to carry the jockstrap of Terminator 1-2, Jurassic Park 1,2, or even 3, or most superhero movies. The characters are pure vomit, there is no story, and the one element that the backyard bubbas always rave about, the action, is not only few and far between, but it's amateurishly done to where you can't see what's going on or who the slag is even fighting. Not that you'd want to, with those designs created by a gaggle of one-eyed geese that someone gave crayons to. And that's no offense meant to all of you hardworking geese.
@mr_clockwork91: I'm sorry if it's offensive but those movies and their director sicken me. It pisses me off to see a franchise I love so much being defecated upon on the big screen. And honestly, not to beat a dead horse, but when I see people defend these hellspawn turds yet attack MOS, I hate their freakin guts.
@bsaa: I didn't find it offensive, I agree with you no matter how shrewd you made your comment. It's sometimes people want to watch a movie they can watch the entire world being tore apart and could care less about story.
@mr_clockwork91: well there is a place for movies that are directorial vanities, or big budget equivalents of fireworks shows. But they're called b movies. Big budget blockbusters should not be big budget b movies. They don't all have to be Dark Knight or Inception, but falling back on the fact that it's an action movie or it has big robots in it to defend a wet shart is just lazy, as are the people who made the film. Also, any director who allows an adaptation of a beloved franchise to become such tripe should be blacklisted until they prove themselves worthy.
F*cking armchair critics these days...
As oppose to people who critique their movies in bed, I gotcha.
@feartheliving: Cheesy you are, but witty you are not.

Says the man speaking like yoda, please...
@feartheliving: Nothing wrong with a little cheese
Transformers and transformers 3 were awesome and I love them tbh, the 2nd was lacking.
Because DC fans have to watch something.
I kid, I kid.
LMAO, I lold at this.
I can't think of any notoriously bad movie I enjoy that others hate.
The general public will watch it as long as it has explosions. A lot of people aren't in it for the acting.
Explosions and boobs >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>> acting/story
@oosupermanthathoeoo: LMAO!
Because Marvel keeps making them
@oosupermanthathoeoo: LMAO!
Already made that joke
I watch movies that I like (including Bayformers films) regardless of whether the critics, fans, neckbeards,or whiny fanboys approve or not. If someone wants to have a polite, mature discussion about them, than I'm down. However to any of the number of people who want to belligerently bitch at me for enjoying them, than they can suck the s**t out of my prolapsed a******
@waezi2: Personally I enjoy certain types of bad movies, ones that are so bad they're stupid (but still entertaining). For instance, Zardoz is one of my favourite movies.
@longbowhunter knows what I'm talking about.

Surprisingly never heard of Zardoz. So I looked it up and OH MY GOD I HAVE TO SEE THE F*%KING MOVIE!
Because Marvel keeps making them
Thank you. The Marvel movies are some of the most bafflingly beloved creations I've ever witnessed. The very best of them (Iron Man and Avengers) are, at best, kinda "meh" action flicks with a good laugh or two and a decent action scene that gets old long before it ends.

My faith meter in humanity is getting pretty high these days, thank you for being so sensible!
@longbowhunter: It's the kind of thing you need to watch with someone else to appreciate, so make sure to get a friend to watch it with you. It's so, so worth it, if only to see the expression on their face at the weird parts.
@squares: Awesome, I know just the friend too.
as others have said, not every movie has to be great. just turn off your brain and enjoy some action.
most movies are like that anyway, including 99% of CBM's.
Explosions and boobs >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>> acting/story
Here's my deal: I dont mind watching a brainless action flick or any other genre lacking a deep or well thought out story. But I at least want the movie to be self aware of that. Pacific Rim and Army Of Darkness are two good examples of this.
The problem is, most of these types of movies try and shoehorn in melodrama or they try and come off as so cool and badass. Transformers is a key offender, as well as almost any movie where the protagonist wears a trenchcoat.
Enjoyment. Despite the glaring flaws you still get a smile.
I'm a sucker for straight to video action movies, Dolph Lundgren film fest ? sign me up.
I think there is a huge difference between fun and insulting, and there is no getting around the fact that The Transformers movies were outright insulting. They have a lot of fart, sex, and other juvenile jokes along with blatant racism, setup-less action and needless product placement. Now compare any Transformers movie with The Avengers. The Avengers is not a literary film, it is a fun film, I don't think that anyone disagrees with that. But it does not insult its audience. Thor doesn't pee on anybody's leg and Iron Man never dry humps Black Widow. It is entirely possible to make a fun action blockbuster with out treating the audience like they are idiots.
@longbowhunter: Zardoz was a mind**** when I saw it.
@wolverine08: Looks like someone has their priorities straight.
