So, you think a pedophile should win this? :P

As far as Wolverine villains go, I voted for Sabretooth. I like that he's Wolverine's stronger, larger, faster opposite. It made their early battles more epic, and made Wolverine's wins feel like real accomplishments. Unfortunately, the past couple of Loeb runs on Wolverine featuring his battles with Sabretooth have taken the shine off the villain for me. I think I'd like to see Sabretooth fight other characters before fighting Wolverine again.

If I had a second vote, I'd vote for Cyber. When he was first introduced, he was a legitimate threat. Wolverine has claws, but with the exception of Cyber's mouth area, his adamantium coated skin made him invulnerable to claw attacks.

As a general character, I prefer Deadpool.

I'm going with the classic choice a.k.a. Sabretooth.

#8 Posted by Dark_Guyver (2356 posts) - - Show Bio

Sabretooth will always be his arch villain. I mean, the guy found him every year on his bday and used to kick the crap out of him.

@impossibilly
Yes, Cyber's hugely underrated.

Nah, it's from a 1997 comic (Maverick One-shot).  Basically, the military executes Arkady, but he survives due to his healing factor. Upon finding that out, they realize he's a good pick for their experiment and that's how Omega Red is born.

Deadpool would win that question without a doubt.

Definitely.  He's by no means a "villain" anymore (in fact, most of his career has been spent as an anti-hero) but I knew people would want to see him on the list.

Read Morrison's, then Whedon's and Carey's run on X-Men. Then quit and never look back. And you will be complete.

My top 3

Omega Red - Gorgon (ok so a one time thing but a truly awesome villain) and then Cyber

All three truly out-match him. They really seem in a different category all together. That's the thing that defines Wolverine, his best bouts are against guys he shouldn't have a chance against.

Everyone else has gotten stagnant or I don't really consider a nemesis of his. (cool seeing roughhouse on this list though!)

#18 Posted by Saren (25891 posts) - - Show Bio

Voted for Gorgon out of personal preference; but if I had to pick a villain based on their influence on Logan's mythos, a properly written Sabretooth would top the list.

I will co-sign any motion to have k4tz tarred and feathered for including Romulus :P

Nope, most people think that era of X-Force was amazing. Even I quite like it, but it does mean reading stuff like Necrosha and Second Coming. The runs I listed are all self-contained.

Including Romulus is wack, but to make it fair you should balance the scales with an equally unimportant character in the Wolverine mythos, You must include the black cop lady that tries to ticket him for his bike way back in issue 50. They are both equally as relevant to the character imo.

Magneto is the one villain Wolverine can't handle. Logan's suppose to be the best at what he does but he can't do shit to Eric. He's always forced to fight Magneto on a moral or philosophical level which is not his forte at all. Magnus obviously carries no resentment towards a fellow mutant but Wolvie just can't see eye to eye with him in regards to the future of mutants. Charles Xavier was one of the few men Wolverine honored and whoever opposes Professor X's philosphy is his enemy.

Thus making him an enormous hypocrite.

You need to revise the Sabretooth choice.

You need to add;

A) CLASSIC "BANG Baby Doll you dead" Sabretooth as a choice, then;

B) JOBBER "Raar" SNIKT "bleh" Sabretooth (who I like to pretend are all clones of the real deal which is where Claremont was heading) as another.

A distinction need be made here ... as they are two EXTREMELY different characters dammit!!!

#31 Posted by Overlander (539 posts) - - Show Bio

Call me old school, but I think Silver Samurai is Wolverine's greatest villain. He is a threat not just because of his mutant power, but also because he outmaneuvered Logan in tradition to win the marriage of Mariko. He is a man of little honor, lots of cunning, and a fair amount of melee skill. One of the most significant defeats Wolverine ever suffered was from Silver Samurai.

I voted Omega Red because I have fond memories of him from the 90s X-men TAS. But i almost went sabertooth, well because he is his arch villain.

Has to be Sabertooth, he is to Wolverine what Joker is to Batman, or Zoom to Flash

Sabertooth!

#39 Posted by stumpy49er (609 posts) - - Show Bio

I voted Sabretooth. He's just a great character. Omega Red is a very close second. Then Lady Deathstrike and Silver Samurai.

#40 Posted by bladewolf (782 posts) - - Show Bio

If Sabretooth loses, I'll be very, very surprised.

I prefer the dynamics with Daken (as well as the unspoken threat of what the Dark Wolverine might do to his predecessor if he ever actually won the fight, both literally and figuratively dominating him, animal-style...).

#42 Posted by Edamame (28280 posts) - - Show Bio

The Silver Samurai, actually. I love the samurai aspects. :)

#43 Posted by Dernman (15234 posts) - - Show Bio

Man there are some on there that I wish I could give a negative vote for. Romulus should never have been created.

I'm torn between Silver Samurai and Ogun. I have a deep love for anything that has do to with Samurai characters.

#45 Posted by Namor1987 (1889 posts) - - Show Bio

Daken because it doesn't get any more personal than having your son as 1 of your villains. Sabretooth & Wolverine have history but Daken is his blood.

#46 Posted by MrUnknown (1700 posts) - - Show Bio

Picked Silver Samurai because he brings more story and origin to the character as opposed to just RAWR!

#47 Posted by Owie (3799 posts) - - Show Bio

I went for Ogun because their main clash was such an epic story.  Gorgon would be my second vote. But clearly a well-written Sabretooth is his true arch-nemesis.

I am on board with the anti-Romulus petition!

It's Sabertooth for any long-time Wolverine fans. Although I can't express how happy it made me to see the name ROUGHHOUSE. He was the villain in some of the first Wolverine stories I can remember reading in the late 80s. That was the first name that popped in my head. He was as rough as a house would be, I guess. Is there a Roughhouse message board? And now that I'm randomly ranting, why isn't he a part of thr Wolverone and the X-Men title? I would make him the gym teacher, alongside Doop, of course.
