Why not? Captain Marvel is the ultimate cosmic marvel hero, she should battle the ultimate cosmic villian. Thanos. I would say the Annilhation Wave but I think that falls under Fox and the their Fantastic Four Franchise.
Have you not seen the phase 3 movie line up? I believe it would be Avengers Infinity War part 1 is May 4th 2018, while Captain Marvel is set for July 2018, that's like the perfect set up. Obviously the Avengers will lose to Thanos in Part 1.
But Carol could be battling Thanos and scoring a minor victory and the Avengers recruit her for part 2. I would even go so far as to say, There is only like 2 Gems on Earth, the rest would be in space. So Thanos would have to jack the two on Earth, than go into space to get the others.
