Poll Who Should Have Defeated Cell in the Cell Games (31 votes)
Who do u think should have killed cell
Who do u think should have killed cell
Piccolo. It would have been ridiculous if it were anyone else other than the saiyans (except Tien) but it'd have been cool to see a non saiyan beat a major villain.
Gohan kills Cell, Goku stays dead and out of the picture, Gohan becomes new guardian of Earth. That's how it should have happened.
Oh yeah, no Great Saiyaman either. *shudders*
No piccolo, he already screwed up with cell
No vegeta , he screwed up with cell
No humans, wouldn't make sense
No, trunks, he showed how much of an idiot he can be
So it's either the one who cell was created to kill, or the one he has no background with
Wonder which one

You sir win this thread.
Goku was, is, and always will be my favorite DB character but the transition and passing of the mantle of protector of Earth from father to son was so well done there. Even how Goku went out, sacrificing himself for everyone else because of his own ego and not understanding his son wasn't the full-blooded warrior he was. Great growing moment for father and son.
Honestly I would've been happy if they ended DB after Cell, I was so disappointed with Buu and how they treated Gohan after Cell. Or at least kept Goku dead but I guess "mentoring" Gohan from the afterlife if they felt the need to keep Goku around.
@cgoodness: You read my mind.

This is how I feel about it too. Toriyama spent an entire saga setting Gohan up to take on the mantle of guardian of the Earth and then blew it halfway into the Buu Saga.
We didn't need fusion dancing or SSJ3 or Goten and Trunks getting super saiyan as toddlers. All of that could have been thrown out in favor of Gohan fulfilling his full potential and stepping out of his father's shadow, becoming the hero Earth needed.
I really like stories where the newer generation have to step up and take on the responsibilities of the previous generation. It's really frustrating to see it build up to that only for everything to return to normal because apparently the new generation is pathetic and can't exist without their daddies.
@metaljimmor: spent the entire saga? That's a good one
The only time where he's actually given time to build up is when goku calls him up for the cell games. And even then, he gets cold feet about it
I liked the fact that Goku took up the mantle of earth's saviour again, it would have been odd for Gohan to end up being the strongest character considering he never really worked for his power unlike Goku and didn't even enjoy fighting. By allowing Goku to surpass Gohan it portrayed the message that hard work pays off.

I agree, but I still like the Buu saga, flaws and all.
I think Vegeta should have done it after Trunks was killed by Cell.
this. Vegeta should have gotten the glory. Atleast after trunks was killed he should have gotten a power boost that would have made him able to contend with perfect cell for alot longer than he did.
@gustofwind: did goku even surpass gohan?

Dude, it's cool. We can't all pull off that sweet costume, but to say "no Great Saiyaman?" Why ya gotta be so rude~?

Yeah...if you're a Saiyan...
Yamcha all day, hits cell with a Super Wolf Fang Fist.
I like the way this guy thinks.
Drops Cell with a Super Wolf Fang Fist, finishes up with a Super Spirit Ball, flips Vegeta the bird and flies off to go play another game of Baseball.
@hyperlight: by battle of gods, yes, he did
@johnfrank120: it would be better with yamcha
@julyiscool: Yeah, but a rock>Wolf Fang Fist>>>>>>>>>>(Times a number so large it refuses to exist)>Any other move in DB/DBZ and *ugh* DBGT
