Poll Who makes better battles: Marvel or DC? (46 votes)

Marvel 33%
DC 33%
Both are equal 35%

Combat is, in my opinion, an essential part of comics. But who creates the best battles: Marvel or DC? From what I've seen, the new 52 generally lacks some action, so I would be with Marvel. However, my opinion could be changed. I am aware that DC have created some great fights, but so have Marvel. What do you think?

Loved the superman /doomsday fight. Also the batman /spawn fight was almost on that level. Bu t marvel had infinity gauntlet #3. So both are equal.

I have to admit, I'm surprised that DC's had so many votes.

Yes, a lot of people on the CV tend to favor DC more. Versus on other sites you're going to see a lot of Marvel fans.

I prefer Marvel's fights. They tend to stay within reason unlike in DC comics where peak humans can do the insanest things that aren't supposed to be possible.

And besides Marvel comics, I think, have better storylines and they portray their fights at the right moments.

The fights DC are capable of are just hands down the best sort of fun I could hope for from comics. I used to be a Marvel fan, back in the late 90s, but once I got my first DC comics I fell in love with their style and haven't looked back since.

@zijuun Market share is pretty closely split between the two. It seesaws back and forth. So I think your comment that Comic Vine is just an island of DC love in a sea of Marvel is disingenuous. There are some things that are almost undeniably better by one company or the other, but I don't think one ultimately trumps.

There are indeed parts of the web where one company is favored over the other. The Vine has traditionally had a slight DC slant in my six year long stay.

In order to make a fair assessment, one would've had to have read pretty much every comic both companies put out. That's basically impossible.

I think it depends on the artist and to a certain extent the writer.

Comparing the DC New 52 and Marvel NOW, both initiatives have put out pretty entertaining fights. For my money, I've enjoyed:

  • Justice League vs. Ocean Master, the Atlantean army, and the Trench
  • Avengers vs. Aleph/Ex Nihilo/Abyss on Mars
  • Shazam/Marvel Family vs. Black Adam/Seven Sins
  • Every F*cking Lantern Corps against Volthoom
  • Captain America vs. Dimension Z

With all of DC's powerhouses, a lot of their fights tend to end up being just haymaker after haymaker. I find that Marvel has more interesting fights.

I had to say they are equal because where I live (Japan) We get barely any marvel ( 2-4 issues of avengers and some of it's members) and the only darkhorse we get is buffy the vampire slayer. Though we do get a small chunk of DC (Green lantern, GL Corps, Batman, Batman and Robin, Nightwing, Batgirl, Justice League, JLA, Super man, Super girl.) So that's mostly what I read. But the marvel fights I see on here are very interesting so I just mark them even.

Battles from comics, movies, TV or any other media all count (but comics should count the most). I agree that JLU did have some great battles.

@grandharrier: this is definitely a pro DC site. If you look at it as a whole from reviews to articles, this is a DC oriented site.

I agree. At least, in my opinion and what I've read/seen.

I think they are very similar -- different environments so hard to compare. I tend to like Marvel more but that's me.
