I'll start,

Wolverine (because hes the best there is at what he does) and for DC it's a tie between Batman and Nightwing. On one hand Batman got me into superheroes and comics to begin with and on the other Dick is arguably the most developed character in the DCU. Dicks pure love for being a superhero just makes me gravitate towards him as a character. It's hard not to love a character who so obviously loves what they do.

Well the current Indestructible Hulk definitely moves the green Goliath up my list. I like the idea o Shield using him as a weapon.

DC (male) - Batman (boring, but reading batman comics got me into the DC universe... I also love Superman and Aquaman though)
DC (female) - tough call between Wonder Woman, Batwoman and Zatanna really love all 3.. DC has a lot of cool female characters.

Marvel (male) - Don't read much Marvel but I've always had a soft spot for the Hulk.
Marvel (female) - probs Jean Grey. (Invisible Woman close 2nd)

Male from DC: Superman/Clark Kent.

Female from DC: Lois Lane, unless I'm going title wise, then Power Girl/Karen Starr.

Male from Marvel: Spider-Man/Peter Parker.

Female from Marvel: Captain Marvel/Ms. Marvel.

DC is easy for me, I love me some Batman.

Marvel is harder I would probably have to say Spiderman or Iron Man. Waid has moved Hulk and Daredevil way up my list though.

I'd have to split it between heroes and villains...

Batman

Joker

Wolverine, Daredevil or Gambit. Tough choice.

I can't list my favorite without also listing my host hated.

Anyway,

Favorites:

DC: Sinestro. Sometimes I love him, sometimes I hate him. Even when I hate him though, I can always empathize with him on some level. Just a great character.

Marvel: Has to be Spidey. And not even exclusively Peter Parker, just the character of Spider-Man in general, including Miles Morales and Doc Oc. Even when I went through a period of not buying any Marvel, I was still buying most of the Spider-Man stuff.

Most disliked:

DC: Guy Gardner. I really, really hate his hick ass. I can't even look at his face. I find it hard to read Corps. because of him.

Marvel: Tony Stark. Mostly because with the success of the movies, the comic Iron-Man has come to resemble the d-bag personality of Downey Jr.'s Iron Man, which I hate. Also, I can't help but remember his role in Civil War every time I encounter him.

Just to be clear, my favorite characters and favorite stories are very different. Some of them overlap, but not often enough.

DC: Batman, I guess.

Marvel: Doctor Doom, but I just started reading Hulk and he's growing on me a lot. I tire of characters that never change (i.e., Batman, who swears to never kill, get married, stop being Batman, etc), and it seems that Bruce Banner has changed a lot over time. I'd really like to go back and read some of his older stories.

I like Doctor Doom just because every appearance I've seen of him has been awesome, not necessarily because I find his stories better than most.

Spider-Man and Superman respectively.

I honestly think that after everything Spider-Man has been through, no matter who is underneath the mask, he is the best hero. Certainly, in all the years, the most well-written.

Marvel: Magneto. By far the only bad guy I always end up rooting for. And seeing that most of the humans in X Men are complete assholes, can you blame me?

DC: Static. First black superhero I was ever exposed to and in my opinion, the best.

DC: Superman. The ultimate paragon of virtue and representation of the best qualities humanity has to offer. He provides an inspiring example to aspire to with his moral compass and desire to always do the right thing.

Marvel - Spider-Man. I can relate to Peter Parker in many ways. Girl troubles, social issues, going through bad spots in life etc. But it's his unwavering sense of responsibility in doing what he does as Spider-Man along with his sense of humour and everyman qualities that make him such an endearing character to me.

DC: Bane hands down the whole reason when I was little he was my role model he inspired me to excersise constantly (still do), and just he's the best thing since sliced bread. Will always love him.

Marvel: there are many legends that I loved in marvel but one not so much a legend really sticks out to me in this day and age, Deadpool he's just so funny!
