who do you feel is the most recognized anime/manga character in the world?
My vote goes to Son Goku
Most famous would probably be Son Goku.
Not sure who the most popular would be. A lot of people have come to dislike Goku in a revisionist sense, after all, he lets genocidal tyrants live because he might get bored in the future and want to fight them. WTF?
In Latin America, the most popular character is probably someone like Dragon Shiryu.
@wolverine08: @fadetoblackbolt: @black_lantern_mar_vell: @cheesesticks: @thereptile: hey if you fell like it u can participate in my thread by casting a vote :) http://www.comicvine.com/forums/off-topic-5/popularity-tournament-anime-edition-1481406/?page=4
The picture in the OP is missing so many popular characters.. Off the top of my head there's Kuro-chan, Mojacko, Doraemon, Zenki, Belldandy, Major Motoko Kusanagi, Lum, Ranma, and freakin' Sailor Moon.

Spike Spiegel.
Goku by a country mile.
@fadetoblackbolt: He's there, behind Alucard's left arm.
It really depends what part of the world you are. Japan may say it's Doraemon, Hello Kitty, Astro Boy Mazinger Z or Gundam (first one). The Chinese would definitely say Goku since he is a rendition of Wukong. US may also say Goku. In the Philippines, it's a toss up between Naruto, Yusuke, Voltes V and Goku. The US may say Pikachu or Goku. The French may say Grendizer. GitS and Eva are huge in the UK or so I've heard. And people say Saint Seiya is the most popular in Latin America. So yeah, I think it depends.
Pikachu no contest
This is the correct answer. Pokemon is 100x more known than DBZ when it comes to world wide.
Pikachu followed by Goku

Also not really a anime or manga but very popular in Japan or China
Ultraman
Actually...
Though it is a new manga
@tparks: hmmmm, don't know about that. Dragonball & Z have dubs in Japanese, English, French, German, Spanish and many other languages.

Well there are mangas and a anime for it but it mostly is done by real actors.
the fact that dragonball z ended in 1996 and is sill broadcasted today and my little brother still watches speaks volume about the character goku > any other anime character
who are you talking about...

My mother has never see or watched a single anime episode of any character. Same for my grandparents. They don't have a clue who Goku is.
They know who Pikachu is. Goku doesn't even come close.
Picachu. Even if you know nothing about anime you know Pikachu. Goku? If you know nothing about anime you don't know Goku.
Pikachu>Goku. I've always wanted to say that.
@thatguywithheadphones: Jotaro is there, lower left of the Eva girls.
Goku
Pikachu, Luffy, Naruto and Ichigo
Everyone else
... why are there no Code Geass characters in that pic?
LuLu is right under Alucard in the middle of the picture
Goku by a country mile.
Pikachu, with Goku being a close 2nd. I don't know a lot of people who watch or know much about anime but they all know who those 2 are. Most of them know who Sailor Moon is too.

*looks*
Huh. He doesn't look right in that picture.
Pikachu is the most known hands down. Then probably Goku. It would be Luffy currently in Japan & most of \Asia though...
