In the spirit of Halloween, I'm wondering, out of all comic book, video game, movie, and novel characters, what characters instill the greatest fear? I'm not asking for just one, just for some brainstorming, some ideas. I'm sure you can think of more than one fear-in stilling character, and you get a pretty broad spectrum of characters I choose from. So who are some of the most fear-in stilling characters?

Sorry about title, autocorrect thinks instills should be instilled. Damn this phone.

Greatest fear in the audience/readers? Or greatest fear in the characters they interact with?

Batman scares Scarecrow who Black Lanterns couldn't scare, and who could instill enough fear to become a Sinestro Corps member.

If we're talking about Halloween then these three comic book characters first come to my mind -

  • Batman
  • Joker
  • Scarecrow

Just about to post something like that.

Though, I'll add Sinestro to the list.

Mister Fear. Moon Knight (with TM at least), Scarecrow, and Joker freaks the heck out of me sometimes with his ways. Also BM is pretty scary at least if you were a comic book character cause you would hear about his torturing and be afraid of him.

I guess Scarecrow. Some other characters might inspire fear in more powerful people but Scarecrow is built around inspiring fear, so he causes more fear, more frequently.

When villains want to scare each other they tale stories about the Joker.
