What's your point? That Civil War, Secret Invasion, Dark Reign, Siege and Fear Itself weren't progressively worse exercises in bullshit? Here's a tip, why don't you actually read the comics instead of posting someone else's polls? Then you'd know how horrendous Marvel has become over the last few years. The X-events like Necrosha, Second Coming and Age of X are their sole saving grace.

Seriously, why don't you actually read comics instead of relying on polls? I can find polls where people say DC is better than Marvel. Do they mean anything? No.

@Macest128: @CitizenBane: I also think Marvel is losing it'self with all these Events..Fear It'self sucked the big one and don't even get me started on Siege. The more intresting compaines are Image and Top Cow at the moment some of the stuff they are coming out with is great! Between DC and Marvel, Dc has a bit of a head start with the new DC 52 line which has sparked a lot of interest and is being done well.

yes polls mean something so you dont have to debate to 50 or more pages like kratos vs dante sparda http://boards.ign.com/stars_lobby/b23910/156630837/p71/ and what do you think i am a comic book critic? i can pretty much enjoy any marvel and dc comic just as long it has some characters that i think are cool so i dont need your advice

Polls are never a great way to judge.

Both Companies have interesting characters, with the own flaws.

Who you think is better is down to personal preference.

people are dumb. this question has nothing to do with events, story arcs, artists or writers, but is asking about the actual characters themselves and their backstories, powers, etc. so forget how bad fear itself was or how great blackest night is, but look at the characters themselves.

so in that light, i say marvel ten times over. just because characters like spider-man, daredevil, and the xmen all strike me as more creative than say the flash, superman, or hawkman. they have more interesting stories and powers and are less predictable. this isnt the case for all marvel characters or all DC characters, but overall i think marvel has more interesting characters.

I like both, but I give the edge in interesting characters to Marvel due to the strength (and I don't mean physical strength) of their second, third and fourth tier characters.

DC's top tier is definitely on par with Marvel's but they fade fast in the lower tiers.

I think both publishers have have interesting characters, but I find that I identify with Marvel's characters more. DC's characters always seem to be about ideals and symbolism which do not interest me as much. That being said, The New 52 has a lot of titles that I am really diggin'

Actually, I'd say that the story arcs and the development under writers is one of the most important things to consider. I mean, what makes the characters if its not the experiences that they've been through???

Quirky powers and origins don't mean much if those characters just remain stagnant and underdeveloped.

I would have to say I prefer DC over Marvel. I grew up reading and watching DC characters and have been an avid Batman fan for years. If you investigate into the characters of both sides, you will find that they often times have very similar characters with similar powers, but different names. As many before have said, it boils down to your personal taste. Look into some characters from both sides and give them a few issues and see if you like them. As big a fan of DC as I am, I can't help but love to read Brubaker's Captain America.

Batman and his circle are probably the only most interesting line of characters in DC. Batman should belong in Marvel.

Nope. Batman is right where he belongs and just because you think he would fit in better with Marvel doesn't mean he would. I could say that I feel that Spider-Man would fit into the DCU more than the MU. Therefore, I think that Marvel should sell all rights to Spider-Man to DC Comics. Does the fact that I think that make it true? Of course not. Just like what you're saying. Batman is and always will be DC just as Spider-Man is and always will be Marvel.

You know, Marvel didn't invent the low-level street character. The fact that Batman exists disproves that theory. Marvel may have populated its universe with more of those characters, but that doesn't mean that DC doesn't have any of them. Aside from Batman, I'd say that "street-level" DC characters include Green Arrow, Black Canary, Wildcat, the Atom, and I'd even say the Flash could be considered a street-level character. I say this because even though Flash may have his speed powers and even though he's occasionally caught up in the high fantasy, universe-changing events, for the most part his stories are somewhat contained to Central City, at least from what I've seen.

At the same time, Marvel has its fair share of high-fantasy characters, such as Thor, Silver Surfer, Nova, Captain Marvel, etc. Either way though, I've always thought that the beauty of DC and Marvel, and of comics in general was that low fantasy characters could coexist with such high-fantasy characters and interact as if it were the most normal thing in the world.

Its only natural i find marvel fanboys here, but the general consensus is BS. The claim DC characters are OP is one of the biggest BS statements till date, in every match-up conceivable marvel will win, their verse is filled with cosmics, cosmic artifacts and characters like thor and hulk who are wrecking any celestial object perceivable, marvel is the REAL op company here. Only living tribunal vs the spectre, HOTU thanos vs anti life equation, Thor vs superman etc etc marvel clearly wins.

Marvel is FAAR less real, they have mutants, over powered gods like thor, characters like hulk; if any marvel character is interesting then its spider- man. DC on the other hand has characters far more creative and interesting. They have the first alien superhero superman, whos powered by certain stars and he has a complex ancestry; theres wonder woman, who was molded out of sand by a strict female civilization who detests males because of previous encounters. The flash who merged with the speed force, who can travel through time, but ultimately cannot change fixed points in time; green lantern one of the most original characters ever. DC characters are thought driven, creative and complex. Marvel characters are either mutants, or gained their powers through an accident; with the exception of thor whos straight from mythology and characters like hyperion, gladiator and nova who are plain rip offs. Marvels NOT creative or thought driven, the basic make- up of their characters are too simple.

More real? another BS, this one is subjective, but judging by the fact that marvel lacks creativity, they punch out new cosmic events frequently, have OP mutants who face giant mechs such as the sentinels, gods, monsters, gov owned teams- its VERY unlikely marvel is more "Real". Sure DC has its own shares, batman, arrow, the flash, even superman- they question their own representation, their own capabilities- this one is a draw for both. Spider- man is probably the closest to all of us, but aside from that marvel is waay too OP and unrealistic to pay any attention to real life.

There are only a few Marvel heroes I find interesting but there are a lot of DC heroes that I love. That and DC is more likely to tell the kind of stories I want to read which makes me notice the things I love about my favorite characters far more...of course that also means I will object more loudly when they screw up...

Marvel characters are more interesting for me, personally. They're a lot more grounded. But I'm also extremely used to the DCU as I've been exposed to it far longer than I have Marvel.

Anything Batman related is very interesting IMO. Even the Sidekicks and Villains. Unfortunately that's pretty much where it ends for DC...

Meanwhile i can find tons of interest in a bulk of marvel base.

Edit: GL is kinda interesting too. And i really enjoyed a lot of DC cartoons. JL/U, 90s Batman, teen titans...

Both have their flagship characters and both have bland or boring characters. I think Marvel is expanding their "famous" list of characters and giving lesser knowns a better chance than DC at the moment. However I don't prefer one company over the other.

Too broad of a question

Batman/DareDevil. Batman

Superman/Sentry Superman

Wonder Woman/Thor Thor

Flash/Quick Silver Pre Speed Force Flash/ Post QS

Flash/Runner Flash

Grundy/Hulk Hulk

Joker/King Pin Joker

Nightwing/Spidey Pete

Perry White/JJ JJ solos

It's pretty much a toss up to me.

If I take a look at the number of characters I actively read from both companies, it would appear as if I prefer DC characters. The truth is, though, that I couldn't care less which company I buy comic books from; it all boils down to the character and the book. Just because I buy more DC books than Marvel doesn't mean I like Captain America (one of my favorite Marvel characters) any less than the DC characters I read.

exactly. not to mention DC owns Wildstorm and Vertigo. But then again Marvel owns Icon. I find that most indie comics are way more relatable than the majors.

This question is solely based on personal opinion and subjective taste. DC has characters like Superman, Batman, Nightwing, Red Hood, Martian Manhunter, Aquaman, and Supergirl. Whereas Marvel has Captain America, Spider-Man, Thor, Hulk, Daredevil, Wolverine, and Punisher. The way I see it, I think it really comes down to what story is being told in the comics and how it's handled by the writers.

I'd Say DC from 1938 to the 90s. Then Marvel became the more interesting company overall, then in the early 00s, DC took back the crown and never gave it back. At some point Marvel just wanted to become political commentary, and stop being about Super Heros.
