Who do the majority of comic fans like more: Avengers or X-Men?
Never really cared for Avengers, even after the movie. X-men, however, sparked my interest in comics in the first place, even years before the movies.
X-Men were cool before the movie. ;)
Does make you wonder how many people started reading Avengers and X-Men because of the movies.
For a long time this was clearly the X-men. The 80's and 90's X-men dominated the Avengers and had a much larger fan base. Over the past 10 years, there's been a shift. Avengers has increased considerably, while X-men has lessened. I'm not sure where they stand right now in the eyes of the average comic fan but it is certainly not as obvious as it was.
For me personally, it is the X-men.
Today's comic fans prefer the X-men since they are more relatable and they were constantly present in cartoons and movies that we grew up with. To boot those shows and movies were excellent. Tomorrow's comic fans will probably prefer the Avengers since they are built up to so much with the movies which as a whole have been positively received and is a massive money making machine. Disney's cartoons push them a lot but don't offer much substance aside from hooking a young audience and selling their product. There's also the fact that the Avengers are currently being pushed more than the X-men in the comics currently.
X-Men all the way, Avengers meteoric rise in popularity is due largely to marvels recent push of the team in the early 2000s with the New Avengers revamp. The X-Men and Spider-Man will always be Marvels main attractions however.
