Who can break the Batman?

Film adaptions and directors usually like to go their own way when interpreting a comic book hero's story. For instance making the Mandarin a facade in Iron Man 3 or the Joker scarring Harvey Dent's face in the Dark Knight. There are pivotal moments in comic book history that are often times subject to change. Originally, Bane is the one who broke the Batman physically and mentally. However having said that, could someone else break the Batman if another director like Ben Affleck were to helm another Batman cinematic saga?
