Which primary things did Christopher Nolan get right in his Batman Trilogy?

These movies have garnered tons of followers and haters alike... Did Nolan get something right? Or was it a total dud?

Everything was at least done well, but the question was what was primarily done right. I chose the plots and villains.

I would say plot and villains. Each villain really represented something special.

The point of Batman's existence and legacy - 'A hero can be anyone'

Pretty much everything.

I think the portrayal of the good guy characters was pretty good but the portrayal of villains was very, very bad.
