Okay so 2015 is going to be a big year for Hollywood. We have a lot of good movies coming out such as, avengers: age of ultron, man of steel 2/batman vs superman(what ever da fuc they call it), star wars episode 7, pirates of the Caribbean, and others. I'm pretty sure that out of all those movies the 3 most successful will Age of ultron, Man of steel 2, and Star Wars Episode VII. Out of these 3, which do you think will be the most successful in the box office?
which movie will triumph in 2015?
Starswars episode 7 is gonna get so much hype, probably going to be the most successful.
Followed by Avengers 2
and in third MoS2 Superman/Ben-Affleck

I think top spot will go to either Star Wars or MoS2 - I think over-all Avengers will lag behind them in terms of overall financial success/interest - but it depends. Release schedules, marketing, viral marketing, pre-release screenings and reviews etc.... all impact on that stuff so it will depend a little on how the studio's choose to handle it.

Why do you think MOS2 will beat the Avengers? 0_o
@peppeyhare: Batman and Superman > everyone else by a long mile
@peppeyhare: Batman and Superman > everyone else by a long mile
True but given the very mixed response MOS had, I don't think they're going to beat the sequel to the third highest grossing movie of all time.
@peppeyhare: Man of Steel was vastly underrated imo. Batman did receive a lot of positive reviews though.
@peppeyhare: Doesn't really matter imo. Batman and Superman in one movie? Even people who didn't like MoS are going to go see it. Anyone who is even the slighest comic or cartoon fan is going to see it, even if they hate both characters.
Its friggen Batman and Superman...who isn't going to see it? :)

@wishiwassuperman: well avengers is set to release on may 1st, man of sreel 2 is set to release on july 17, and disney is eyeing a december release for Star Wars Episode VII.
it will be a great year for our kind. as for the the movie buisness, itll either be a huge box office success year or a flop year
Man of Steel 2 will make the most money, I'm calling it.
You're probably right regardless of the quality of the film. Batman and Superman being in a movie together is going to get a lot of people to see it and possibly multiple times as long as it isn't horrible.
Star Wars will make the most money. Before anyone says Avengers 2 or MOS 2. Remember something, this is f*cking star wars. You say you are not going to see it, but yes you are. Everyone in the entire world is going to see star wars, EVERYBODY. It can be the crappiest film of all time, but who cares? Everyone is going to see it anyway. I think MOS 2 is going to be the best movie out of them all though.

No its without a doubt going to be a year of success. Doesn't matter the quality of the movies, there is going to be a lot of money making movies this year.

Why do you think MOS2 will beat the Avengers? 0_o
Multiple reasons.
1 - I'm biased anyway, so I always assume Superman will be on top eventually ;-P
2 - Superman & Batman are the undisputed biggest comic book characters in history. Only Spider-man comes close. Maybe they should chuck him the Avengers (oh wait.... they can't) - putting them into a film beside each other is a BIG move by WB and will generate soooooo much press and interest and curiosity.
3 - The amount of publicity they have already received and controversy is reminiscent of Heath Ledger being cast as Joker - and that was a $1 Billion movie in the end - adding $600 Million to the takings of Batman Begins - the single biggest jump in takings in any CBM history. I realize his death then played into that, as it was a curiosity factor "how good was he?" - Affleck's inclusion will generate the same interest without him dying.
4 - It's close enough to the Nolan trilogy that Batman's individual pulling power will add a massive boost to Superman's already impressive takings
5 - The controversy and divided opinion on MoS will automatically generate interest as people will be keen to see if Snyder changes his approach, how he deals with the disaster porn backlash etc... in this film - I think critics and people disappointed with MoS will watch it to give him a 2nd chance
6 - Despite both being announced with great fanfare at Comic-Con, the MoS2 announcement gained the biggest press and interest from the CB community, the media at large and the GP. I could ask anyone on the street about this and they've heard of it, been wondering who is going to be Batman, are they gonna fight, who's gonna win, will it have Lex Luthor in it, etc... Ask about Avengers 2 and it's usually - "yeah I heard they're making one, but they're doing Superman Vs Batman!" or they didn't even hear about Avengers until a few days later, if at all. Avengers is cared mostly about the CB community - EVERYONE wants to know about Batman Vs Superman...
7 - Avenger's financial success is misleading in the CBM world - it wasn't an origin film like most of it's competition - it was a team-up movie - in that sense it's one of a kind as no one had attempted that prior (X-Men and FF kind of do - but those characters are in a team universe anyway and start as a team). Avengers was building off Thor, Captain America, Incredible Hulk and two Iron Man movies - it essentially had the combined success of 5 movies backing it, all of which were successful films. Not trying to take credit away from Avengers, but it's financial success was heavily influenced by that. I don't think it will be that much more successful than it's initial outing with the sequel - it will have a higher taking worldwide than the 1st film (or at least it should), but I don't see it going THAT much higher - I reckon it'll hit the $1.7 - $1.9 Billion mark, and fall just shy of $2 Billion, while MoS2/Star Wars I think can/will break $2 Billion.
Of course between now and then anything can happen, and as I said it does depend on a lot of other factors (release dates and times of year play a part in this, 3D/non 3D split (3D inflates gross earnings), number of theatres it opens to, how many markets it hits at once on a world wide release schedule). Interestingly, MoS's gross worldwide takings are inaccurate as no one is releasing or counting Japan's figures - it only released there like 2 weeks ago. Based on some assumptions I think that will push it to the $700 million mark or very close to it. Also Avengers and Amazing Spider-man both have had much more time at the box office than MoS so far so again it's gross earnings haven't had quite the same chance, especially if compared to Avengers. At the end of the day though it will depend on people - if they like it enough they'll go back and watch it over and over, etc... So really anything can happen.
@wishiwassuperman: i agree with everything you said man, btw im a big superman fan but a marvel fan :)
Star Wars will make the most money. Before anyone says Avengers 2 or MOS 2. Remember something, this is f*cking star wars. You say you are not going to see it, but yes you are. You may be right but I think the same can be said of MoS2 (I don't think it quite applies to Avengers though, but that's my opinion). Also, I would consider that Star Wars eps 1-3 burned the franchise a bit (especially ep2). Phantom Menace was a massive success financially, but critically/opinion wise it was a very mixed bag with a lot of criticisms. People got annoyed by it and Clones suffered because of it (took in almost $400K less than phantom - pretty big loss of revenue). Revenge of the Sith reclaimed it's credibility a little but over-all the series left people a bit sour towards the franchise - and given the move by Disney is being viewed with a bit of disdain already I think they'll need to have something absolutely amazing in order to get the GP to over-look the shortcomings of the last 3 films and the over-all "this is just money grabbing" attitude people seem to have. I agree it will be up there, I agree almost everyone will see it, but some of these factors will work against it as well. The biggest success for them out of Eps 1-3 was the animated series Clone Wars - which is enough to keep it popular and relevant which I suspect is what Disney is counting on.
For all 3 though their release dates will be important - what else will they end up going up against? This year for example MoS had some immediate competition (Monsters University and Despicable Me 2 come to mind for the kid market - which is a HUGE part of the pie), whereas Iron Man 3 this year had no competition (partly because studios didn't want to compete with it).
As a point of interest there's A LOT of films slated for a release around that year, some of which will be massive in their own right, so if the timing isn't right any one of them will be sharing the limelight with the likes of Finding Dory (Finding Nemo sequel), Kung Fu Panda 3, Fantastic Four reboot, Ant-Man, Hunger Games, Pirates of the Caribbean, Jurassic Park 4, and even new Mission Impossible and Terminator installments (would have sworn we were over those films by now). And according to IMDB there's even a live-action movie coming in 2015 based on World of Warcraft and I'm sure we all know how WoW players can be pretty die-hard guys who will no doubt push that thing to some big heights. So yeah, no matter what 2015 is going to be HUGE year for making money in the film industry.
@wishiwassuperman: i agree with everything you said man, btw im a big superman fan but a marvel fan :)
Cheers man - much love for Marvel here too, especially Spidey. Also thanks for the heads up on projected release dates.
@rulerofthisuniverse: hey, you were on that other thread arguing with that guy that said scott snyders batman sucks. lol
im on your side by the way :p
I think it'll be a tossup between Avengers: AoU and Star Wars, with Avengers edging SW out for the win. I think MoS 2 will do very well too as others have said it's Batman and Superman in a movie together for the 1st time ever. Even people who usually don't care about superhero movies will have interest in it, I remember reading the newspaper and seeing them mention that there would be a Batman and Superman movie. When Star Wars and AoU were announced I don't remember seeing anything but still Avengers is coming off a $1.5 billion film and Episode VII will have the original cast back which is going to get a lot of people into theaters. I think all 3 are near guaranteed to at least make $1 billion at the box office as long as they're not completely terrible.
@kingofash: Avatar 2 is pushed back to 2016.
Assassins Creed is going to be the biggest movie of 2015. I predict it'll be awesome + Micheal Fassbender is in it so it must be good lol!
Assassin's Creed - Its had so many games that the hype will be huge when that movie gets near realese!
- Age Of Utron - The Avengers movie will help it out immensely.
- Superman/Batman - Doesn't have the advantage of being established like the Assassins Creed franchise. May also be some bias due ot the Nolan trilogy.
- Terminator - Those films always do well.
- Pirates Of The Carrbean - Nuff Said

You are joking right? The font seems to imply that you are but I doubt Assassin's Creed can come close to Star Wars VII let alone Avengers: Age of Ultron or the Man of Steel sequel featuring Batman. The others seem like good choices though. But I feel those 3 will be the top movies of 2015 IMO.
@lvenger: Me joke!? Never!
But seriously while it won't be the top I think it will beat Superman/Batman.
I thought Batman/Superman was out next year and Justice League in 2015, well I never believed really.
Star Wars
Avengers 2
Batman/Superman
@strider92: Hmm, how big is the AC franchise/fanbase/general knowledge of it? It just seems that in comparison, the MOS sequel has that all in the bag. Plus Batman sells, it's a commonly accepted fact of the cinema business.
- Star Wars
- Superman/Batman
- Avengers 2
- other cbm
It really depends on which cbm is the best and if comic fans will go back to watch it and second or third time. I think Avengers might be fun to watch, but S/B will be better, because of the darker tone. Plus it's Batman!
I'm pretty excited for the Star Wars movie, but I only have some knowledge of whats going to happen. If anyone has any links about the film post them please.
@lvenger: True but:
- MOS was the subject of a bit of controversy (you know of what I speak).
- Ben Affleck as Batman has already struck up some out-cry mainly due to the Nolan franchise (biased people ftw).
- Assassin's Creed is going to be the first in a series and frankly the first movies in a series normally do really well.
- As AC has about 8-9 games under its belt most of them critically acclaimed and won a ton of awards the awareness is there. Even if you haven't played the games a LOT of people have heard of it (heck even my sister has heard of it and she has never touched an X-box controller in her life). Do they know what the story is? No but the awareness of its existence is there.
All in all I would say it has the better chance than Superman/Batman as it appeals to Gamers in general (a huge fan-base), people who like history (most of the characters in the series aside from the protagonists were real people ie: Robert De Sable, Leonardo Divici etc... and aside from the odd change it does show a lot of historical events really well) and just people looking for an action film.
MOS only has comic lovers and fans of action movies and comic-lovers are notorious at hating on films. Not mention some people straight up dislike Superman and Batman or just superheros in general also you can throw in Nolan bias. My thought process is that AC will generate less hate and appeal to a wider audience with the added bonus of being a fully fledged franchise in its own right.
Star Wars will be massive! People have waited SOOOO long for one of the sequels...after that its any ones guess out of MOS or Avengers 2. Based on the Box Office receipts of the first Avengers Movie, you'd have to say it stands a good chance of pipping MOS2, given the less than spectacular takings of MOS1 and the fact that this is not a Nolan Bale Batman film.
@strider92: Fair enough. You bring some excellent points to my attention that I wasn't aware of before. But I can't think of a really successful film adaption of a video game to my knowledge.
@strider92: Did you just find out about the upcoming Assassin's Creed film or what? lol
@monsterstomp: Nah i'm in an AC mood today is all.
