Though it's in to it's 7th film, the amount of time since the previous one is enough so there won't be viewer's fatigue. Star War fans across the globe are psyched to finally get another Star Wars film, but the biggest concern for this films is whether or not there is the same love for SW there was 20 years ago. What people fail to realize is that though their fanbase is just as big, or maybe even bigger in the US as the two other films, worldwide, Batman and Superman are icons. Even with the addition of Star Wars animated series like Clone Wars or Rebels, the majority of modern SW fans are in the mid 20s-50s age group. I have no doubt this film will make the most domestically. But if the past has taught us anything, popularity does not ensure success (MoS is a great example). This film might be the least popular in the eyes of the general public.
Domestic Numbers: $550,000,000; Worldwide: 1.45 Billion
The second of what many consider the best Superhero film ever, millions are excited. We get to see the Avengers face a foe who actually poses a threat, and a film that could change the shape of the MCU. The biggest problem this film faces is whether or not the general public thinks its more of the same of the first film Us comic enthusiast know its not, but we make up probably 10-20% of its total revenue. To be honest, it would be a HUGE shocker if this makes anything less than the first, and that film was the third highest grossing ever.
Domestic Numbers: $450,000,000; Worldwide: 1.65 Billion
This movie is muggy. It has two of the three most iconic Superheroes ever (the third being Spiderman), along with the most popular female hero as a sidepiece, though that alone will definitely ensure it success. However, MoS was not the box office success that they thought it'd be (not saying $668 million world wide isn't a lot), but even GotG made more. It is a little to early to decide how much it will make, but what this really will come down to is how good the film is. The other two films can afford to be mediocre and still even bring in 1 billion, but with the polarizing baggage that MoS brings into this film, this one has to be at the very least a 7/10. But the pure fact that we get Batman and Superman in the same film almost guarantees a billion, and I'd be shocked at anything less.
Domestic Numbers: $300-$600 million; Worldwide: $1-$2.5 Billion
All three of these films will have success, but Id doubt any of them will even touch Avatar's record.
