I think the quality of Batman Begins and The Dark Knight helped Batman get his street cred back from the days of Arnold as Mr. Freeze.

Batman, without a doubt. Just watch how much better TDKR will do at the box office than ASM...
Meh, that is not an argument, TDKR woud be a better executed movie, but that doesn't mean that Batman is more popular than Spider-man.
As Kid the first heroes I met were Batman, Spider-man and Superman.
It's Batman, by a very large margin.

If more people pay their money to go see Batman on the big screen, I think that would bear some indication that general audiences like Batman more.
If you google it. It says worldwide they are about even.

Batman, has more fans, hell I even did a survey on this. (seriously)

Let the numbers speak for themselves. Batman absolutely clobbered Spiderman in sales. Batman sells more books. Batman earns more money. Batman has more readers. It isn't even remotely close.
Seems like Batman is,but they are both very popular.
I guess Batman, but only because of Nolan's franchise and the fact, that DC is now milking Batman big time.
Does it really matter? Being as huge a Batfan as I am, I like then almost equally because being a younging in the 90s I grew up watching both the Spider-Man cartoon and Batman: TAS... And as a collector now I do have about twice as much Batman items then Spidey but I plan on getting more Spidey back issues

NOPE, that means that Christopher Nolan is doing a good job.
So I guess you could say that the Raimi films were only so popular not because they had Spider-Man in them but because Sam Raimi did a good job. Or that none of the Avengers characters are popular Joss Whedon is just doing a good job and that's why it made so much money, right? I hate when people say Batman is popular because of Nolan forgetting that he was extremely popular years before Nolan came along. Sure he's helped his popularity but this isn't a case like Iron Man who clearly wasn't very popular at all before RDJ came along and needed that boost to become relevant. 60's Batman was huge, Batman 89 actually sold more tickets than TDKR, hell even Batman Forever set a opening weekend box office record back when it came out. Batman: TAS was very popular, it took the efforts of the awful Batman & Robin to make his popularity go down.
They're close but I'd say Batman is more popular.

Well, he did, on a way... The first trilogy was goofy, strange and full of mistakes, but that doesn't make it a good movie, its a good movie because it is enjoyable as heck, he made for the first time to people know who is Spider-man, beyond the surface, the average man (I mean, all those people that dont read comics) discovered Spider-man, Peter Parker, the guy that sacrifaces himself to save the people.
Or that none of the Avengers characters are popular Joss Whedon is just doing a good job and that's why it made so much money, right?
Exactly, nobody cared about all the Avengers franchise before these movies, all those shawarma tshirts, the cartoons, all happened because the movie.
I hate when people say Batman is popular because of Nolan forgetting that he was extremely popular years before Nolan came along.
I never said that, its true that Batman was already an iconic character that everybody in his childhood knows who Batman is.

Tickets were cheaper back then, and (as kid) Batman forever was awesome, it had my favourite characters. But Nolan made a good job, that is why people pay to watch the movie, he made a Batman that the people can touch and feel that he is real, that you can be Batman, the first Nolan movie earned $206,852,432, then The Dark Knight earned $534,858,444, that means something, that he did a good job, beyond Batmans popularity, comicbooks/books/cartoons are popular not because the thing itself, is popular because the peoplr that eforts to do the right thing with those comicbooks/books/cartoons, its true that the culture of the people is a big factor, but every popular thing becomes popular because someone made that thing popular.

OK when you put it that way I understand what you mean.
