Which real life city do you consider the real life gotham. Not just because of the looks. How the city is , how crime rate is like. Some of that stuff.
In my personal opinion , I think chicago is got to be like the real life Gotham. I would probably keep you updated. But hey , that what nolan uses part of the city for the movie scenes. So guys what real life city would you consider real life verison of gotham?
By homocide rate? Sure, USA's cities probably got more of those. S*it USA even has the highest amount to serial killers globally. But total crime, as in grand theft, violent robbery, corruption, extortion, torture, illegal drug trade and kidnapping? Nah i think i'll stick with MC on that one.
And the guy who wrote that article seems to have been only to the commercial and tourist locations of the city, he didn't even go to the poverty part of town. Big part of cities like that are the suburbs and ghettos so i wouldn't exactly take his word that MC is "misconceived ".
I could visit any city/country and never notice the crime if i only wen't to the commercial and tourist areas, doesn't mean it doesn't exist.
I feel like I need to go to all these cities at night to figure this out.
Anyhow, there's some precedent for Gotham being located in New England. It was pretty much Boston in Batman '66, and Young Justice places it in Connecticut.
Still, NYC, Chicago, and Detroit are the best candidates.

I've lived in New Orleans, and it honestly isn't as bad as people make it seem.
