Which 2 books should I add to my pull list?

#1 Posted by Shipster360 (46 posts) - 2 months, 23 days ago - Show Bio

I am currently reading Batman, Batman and Robin, Nightwing, Red Hood and the Outlaws, Teen Titans, Green Arrow, Justice League of America, The Walking Dead, and Avengers Arena. I know my list is pretty DC-heavy but I am willing to branch out. Any suggestions with reasoning would be much appreciated!

Drop Arena and pick up Deathmatch :P

Nah, but your list engulfs mine. I enjoyed the first issue of Uncanny X-Force and will be picking up the second one, so Marvel-wise that'd be my recommendation.

Also, if you're not reading the weekly Injustice comics, you're missing out.

All-Star Western

@Shipster360: From Marvel, I would recommend Hawkeye and Thor: God of Thunder. Hawkeye is a really funny story that is executed very well. Aja's art isn't for everybody but once you get used to it, it is a blast to read. The 8th issue was just released today. Thor is an epic story that transitions to three different points in his life throughout each issue so far. I love this story and the 5th issue was just released last week.

From Marvel, my best recommendations are Hawkeye (hilarious, odd art but it's awesome when you get used to it), New Avengers (a bit on the slow side but the last issue was very strong), and Avengers (great starting point for anyone who hasn't been reading Avengers regularly, since right now they're giving backstories for new characters/incarnations).

From DC, Batwoman (amazing art with an surprising amount of high points in the story).

I would say All New Xmen and Thor:God of Thunder both are good jumping on points for new readers and both are awesome.

@Shipster360: Thor: God of Thunder and Wonder Woman. Or Aquaman.

@Shipster360: You should definitely add some more Indie and i recommend SAGA!! It's fantastic and it's only on issue 10 you could catch up so quickly. Also New Avengers and Hawkeye are great too as other people have mentioned.

If I could only get 2 from my list it would be Saga and Batwoman. I would also echo Thor God of Thunder has been great so far and is only a few issues in.

@akbogert: i looked into Deathmatch and i am sold. I will add it to my pull list. the only issue i have though is i have missed the first three issues. anything really important i need to know?

#14 Posted by akbogert (2139 posts) - 2 months, 23 days ago - Show Bio

@Shipster360: Haha, really? I was actually joking, as I loathe Arena and am always looking to sway people away from it. I've not actually read Deathmatch so I cannot answer that question -- I've only read about it, and heard from quite a few people that it is good without all the moral baggage of Arena. Having heard it's a decent swap if you're mostly in it for the intrigue of superpowered death arena, that's why I suggested it. I know there are folks here who are reading it (and even in place of Arena) though, so I'm sure you can get that information rather easily.

I feel a little bad, haha, it sounds like I was just tricking or trolling now. I'm actually considering picking up Deathmatch myself, though, so I don't not recommend it :P

@MadeinBangladesh: which of the two x-men is your favorite and how far in are the two of them?

#18 Posted by akbogert (2139 posts) - 2 months, 23 days ago - Show Bio

@Shipster360: Heh, glad I could help, then. And if you're ever looking for excuses not to read Arena (like, say, solidarity with those of us who are freaking out) you'll find no shortage of those in my blogs, not least of which being Because I've Never Been One to Keep My Mouth Shut...

Anyhow, again -- hope you love it :)

Add more independent comics to your pull list, the choice is yours. I think its good for readers to avoid the big two because at this moment they not being super creative and they are not breaking any big ground

if you need any Marvel then pick up some classic Marvel TPBs (before Bendis ruined Marvel)

I'd go for classics like Ultimates, Marvels, JMS Thor trilogy, Silver Surfer Judgement Day by Stan Lee, Ironfist, Guardians of the Galaxy, Joss Whedon's Astonishing X-Men etc

Avengers and New Avengers.

"It started with an idea. The spark that started the fire was expansion. Our Captain spoke, and gave the idea form. He said the words, and made it real. He said, "Assemble at dawn." Assemble at dawn. And how could we not? For we were Avengers."
