What villains are considered serial killers?
Actual definitions of "serial killer" are a bit vague. The generally agreed upon characteristics are a minimum of three murders which did not occur simultaneously by a single perpetrator. By this definition the vast majority of villains likely qualify as serial killers. A few heroes (Wolverine and the Punisher to name a couple) fall under the strict denotation of the definition but don't quite match up to the connotations.
@diredrill: why not? I mean he kills as a habit. I don't think motive counts. Or does it?
Serial Killer definition:
A serial killer is traditionally defined as a person who has murdered three or more people over a period of more than a month, with down time (a "cooling off period") between the murders.
I think this settles it. The Joker is most definetely a serial killer.
@diredrill: Yes he is.
The Joker does not kill 3 people over a long period of time and require a cooling off period. He does so in one sitting and continues to do so until Batman beats him to a bloody pulp and puts him in Arkham and when he is healed he does so again. One time when he broke out of Arkham and he found a family and killed them and took their car. He happened upon Robin and took him hostage and then proceeded to kill several more people over the course of his date with Robin. Serial Killers take their time with a kill because they want it to last, the Joker kills people like you or I breathe. He defies any definition of Serial Killer with no problem.
I think that the Joker has you quite fooled like he does most. It is okay, I am here to help you understand the Clown Prince of Crime so that you can better know his chaotic goodness.

A closer definition for the Joker would be a spree killer, not a serial killer.
A better example of one would be Holiday from the Long Halloween. Holiday is a serial killer because he (she) murdered multiple people, but did it over an entire year, with long breaks in between each murder.

I didn't even know there were so many definitions. So, yes, maybe he fits better in that category.
@diredrill: lol, the last part was really inspiring. Yes, I see now that I didn't know the proper definition. I thought that serial killer was like the only real category for people who kill consistently and repeatedly, but now I see that I was wrong.
The joker is above such petty lables!
I might stick Zoom in there.
He's incredibly obsessive and isn't really murder hungry, but he'll do it to torment Wally West.
