She has established herself as an interesting character in the new 52. Though she is Aquaman's wife, Mera doesn't always agree with him or share his opinions. That is a good thing, it makes Mera her own woman and not just Aquaman's eye candy.
Not being a human, and having received less than respectable at times treatment from them, she isn't particularly magnanimous like Arthur. It could be interesting if she sets off to experience the good in humanity and see for herself, without Arthur guiding her along, while doing good too.
