Poll: What's your favorite series or run by Grant Morrison? (46 votes)

Action Comics 2%
All-Star Superman 35%
Animal Man 4%
Batman / Batman and Robin / Batman, Inc. 22%
Doom Patrol 4%
Final Crisis 0%
Flex Mentallo: Man of Muscle Mystery 2%
The Invisibles 0%
JLA 11%
New X-Men 11%
Seven Soldiers 0%
Other (please specify) 9%

I realize picking just one must be difficult, given that he is the undisputed greatest comic writer of all time.

I voted for his Batman run. It is my favorite run anyone has ever done with my favorite character. The return of Bruce Wayne should be included in the listing a very underrated part of his epic. I hope All-star Superman and The invisibles do well in this poll. An option to vote for Arkham Asylum would have made it a tough decison.

You're absolutely right. I really should have just stated that the option is for his Batman run in its entirety. The Return of Bruce Wayne is in fact my favorite chapter in his Batman run.

... I can't choose. There's too much.

Final Crisis was probably one of the worst things I've read in my life.

I went with All Star Superman because it's just a perfect Superman story. But he has other good works, like his Batman stuff and New X-Men. JLA was a close second, I still reread those issues all the time.

Final Crisis was probably one of the worst things I've read in my life.

It actually gets better the more you read it. I didn't like it the first time I read it, but I have now come to really like that story.

@jedixman: Really? I can't imagine me liking it. Does that include all the extra books or are you talking straight Final Crisis issues?

#9 Edited by The_Tree (7235 posts) - - Show Bio

My top five would be:

  1. Batman
  2. Doom Patrol
  3. Final Crisis
  4. JLA
  5. Action Comics

Batman is just fantastic, his run is a celebration of all things Batman. From silver age concepts like Bat-Mite and the Batman of Zur-En-Arrh, to Batman jumping through time. It's sometimes wacky, but it's great fun. Batman and Robin is one of my favorite series to come out of it, and even one of my favorite series just in general.

I really need to get around to reading The Invisibles and Animal Man.

Including the extras, especially Superman Beyond 3D (stupid as it sounds, this is literally essential reading; FC makes no sense without this).

JLA

WE3!!! One of the only comics that has made me shed a tear.

#13 Posted by ArturoCalaKayVee (11130 posts) - - Show Bio

@jedixman: I've never even heard of Superman Beyond 3D...interesting. I just checked Comixology and they don't have it. Meh. I'll take a trip to my LCS soon and see if they got it. Thanks!

No problem.

It's actually so essential that it's tossed into the FC trade. I believe it takes place between FC #5 and 6.

It actually explains Mandrakk. If you read FC on its own, Mandrakk comes completely out of nowhere at the end. Superman Beyond 3D provides context. It's still confusing, but it helps tremendously.

If Final Crisis were 12 issues long, it would have been much better. Grant Morrison does his best work in the long run.

Been done before.

I'd vote for Doom Patrol but I haven't read Flex or The Invisibles yet. Going to soon, though.

No mention of Zenith?

Shame that his early stuff blows his newer stuff out of the water.

Other: Serious House on a Serious Earth. My favorite Bat-comic. :)

Animal Man's a close second.

His Batman run is just the best for me.

All Star and Animal Man as a close second. Loved We3 as well. Haven't read all his JLA or New X-Men.

I find his Batman work highly overrated and didn't like Final Crisis. I'm not too motivated to read any of the other titles if his so-called masterpiece isn't all that good.

All-Star Superman: still my favorite comic-book till this day.

I really love his JLA run though, anyone who wants to read the League done right should pick up his run in the Deluxe Edition volumes.

And All-Star Superman sums up perfectly why I don't like Superman.

Zoids

It was a tie between his run on New X-Men and Batman/Batman, Inc. stuff. Ultimately, I went with NXM because I thought the stories were bolder.

New X-men

JLA

Batman

Hard to choose

No Arkham Asylum : ASHOAE? He's best work IMO. Anyway voted his Batman run, best run in comics followed by his JLA run.

I'm particularly fond of Doom Patrol, though his work on Animal Man is definitely among my favorites. :)

This plus his Batman run. 3 finer stories are hard to think of for me.

I enjoyed his JLA run.

My favorite Grant Morrison work is this Vertigo one-shot called Kill Your Boyfriend. It's nowhere near as good as some of his other stuff, but I was enthralled by that story when I read it.

And yet, people never shut up about his newer stuff like it's the greatest writing ever.

"Well you obviously don't get his work."

:p

But I can see why some like certain things even if I don't.

What do you think his best work is?

I know right? He's unquestionably one of the greats and has an amazing body of work, but his devout followers make up some of the most close-minded individuals I've yet encountered on the Vine. I'll always love his early works though.
