@rpgesus: Thanks. Hope this gets into really good references for comic book readers. Since I can't upload pics on phone I'll leave it blank for tomorrow.

Title: THE WALKING DEAD

Author: ROBERT KIRKMAN

Artist: TBU

Synopsis: Rick Grimes a police officer wakes up in a hospital, only to find the world overrun with zombies. TBU more later.

What Must Read(WMR): First volume is the introduction to the main character and the world around it. First volume consists of 6 issues. After the first 6 issues every issue is a blast and painful wait for the next. Walking dead compared to average comics consists of less words and more pictures that captures the dangers and emotions in the world.

WMIAMR:

Title: SANDMAN

Artist: Various Artist TBU

Synopsis: This is the story of Dream of the Endless. A member of the Endless family which consists of (order from oldest to youngest), Destiny, Death, Destruction, Dream, Desire,Despair,Delirium who was once delight. Dream is the lord of the dreaming, is the dreaming, this is the story of Dream of the Endless.

WMR: The first volume indeed can be hard to get into for some, especially if you're a child (yes I first started this as a child and dropped it). As you keep reading you see how people interact with the Endless family and how the Endless themselves places a role into the beings of the universe. It's a blast, winner of more awards then I can count. Probly the best comic/book ever created. This book will make you love Death, yes Death.

TITLE: LUCIFER

AUTHOR: MIKE CAREY

ARTIST: VARIOUS ARTIST, PETER GROSS

SYNOPSIS: Lucifer Morningstar quits his job as the lord of hell and opens a bar, LUX, he starts settling down when he gets a mission from his father, and the story thus begins.

WMR: Lucifer is introduced in The Sandman, this is the story of the devil who wish to gain the ultimate prize, freedom. And when he wants something he gets it. On the little journey he meets such character as Elaine Belloc. This book will make you fall in love with the Devil himself. This is my favorite book.

I will finish this later.

I'm not listing everything but here are my five favorite ones in recent years:

Venom by Rick Remender & Cullen Bunn - 42 issue series, can get it all in trades, really great character story. Remender wrote the first 22 issues, then Bunn wrote the rest.

Scarlet Spider by Chris Yost - Funny and at times heartfelt, Kaine's attitude is the best part.

Green Lantern by Geoff Johns - It's not new but read from Rebirth through to Wrath of the First Lantern. Johns really did an awesome job with the GL mythos.

I'll edit and finish this later. Got to do yardwork.

Title

Preacher.

Author/Artist

Author:

Garth Ennis.

Artist:

Steve Dillon.

Synopsis

At first glance, the Reverend Jesse Custer doesn't look like anyone special--just another small-town minister losing his faith. But when he comes face-to-face with proof that God exists, he begins a violent and riotous journey across the country in search of answers from the elusive deity.

Why You Must Read

Reason 1: “Preacher” is what graphic novels should be.

Too often, when reading a manga or graphic novel, I find myself wondering why it is a visual form at all—with little to no action or anything else that would warrant a comic book. “Preacher” is an action-packed story about one man hunting down God, with violent forces trying to stop him on nearly every page. And the action, color, and art sequences suit it well.

Reason 2: “Preacher” has some epic and unexpected characters.

This work is the one I've had to fight myself most not to give away spoilers on. But... lets just say that all the characters have some pretty epic secrets and back-stories. That doesn't mean that the authors don't occasionally give in to literary cliches, but they do an overall good job.

Reason 3: “Preacher” comes very close to being Judeo-Christian canon.

This may not appeal to everyone but as someone who has done extensive Biblical research, I can tell that this irreverent work does come very close to representing a completely accurate Christian scifi/fantasy mythos. And the artists do so in a way that is critical without being overbearing, and that is also extremely eerie.

Reason 4: “Preacher” is one of those few books that will make you cringe.

Being desensitized in this modern era, it is rare for me to find a story that puts my stomach in knots. The plot, art, and characters do a wonderful job of doing that. And yet, there are moments that are heart-warming and simple—making this a very complete work that deserves to be read.

Knightfall

Writer: Chuck Dixon

Synopsis: The cover speaks for itself. Bane breaks criminals out of Arkham to weaken the Batman.

Why one must read: It was the creation of Bane, the best Bat villain, it marks the first time some one beat him like this, it was revolutionary, just like the Death of Superman was, his triumphant return is awesome in part 3, it inspired one of the best movies "the Dark Knight Rises", all the villains that appear serve a purpose (unlike in Hush).
