What Makes the TMNT So Cool?

It all started with this comic. With four, giant, talking, martial art, turtles. A strange tale of reptiles beating the crap out of a guy named the Shredder swept the nation.

And look at it now (except at the Michael Bay thing. Just act like that didn't happen)! It is one of the most popular and recognizable franchises in the world! But what made it so popular? I believe it was good timing, and a story so strange and silly that it just might work. But maybe there's another reason. What are your guys' opinion?

'Cuz they're ninjas, and ninjas are always cool.

They're humanoid ninja turtles who eat pizza in an awesome sewer hideout.

There dad is a rat makes them cool. There current run by IDW made them cooler than they have ever been.

In the 80s their attitudes and interests really spoke to the youth culture at the time. Skateboarding, videogames, pizza, and the references to martial arts and action movies were all things I identified with.

Their current run is more modernized but they still remain the same at the core, and the storytelling has grown a lot.

Dude they are archtypes for every teenager. Anyone should be able to identify with at least one.

Me and my brother are super close so I love that aspect of them. Also I was a skater in my teens. So, yeah they win that too.

My father thinks the TMNT its weord because it's four teenagers with a freaky old ratman living alone in the subway... now I think it's a little creepy

Came around at the right time and gained iconic status along with a sizeable, loyal, cult fanbase that just utterly refused to grow out of it I guess.
