What is up with the name "FanBoy"

Can any one tell me where it came from??I am a 20 something year old man....and I hate the label Fanboy---dosen't it only reconstitute the living in your mothers basement collecting comic books no girlfriend vibe--cant we cone up with a cooler name for comic fans. I dont remember being called a fan boy when I started collecting but that was a long time ago-where did it come from??? If any one knows please tell me so I can kill it...no seriously please lets come up with a better label..please..

firstly, welcome to the site

typically 'fanboy' is a negative connotation of Fan, usual equated with someone that 'only has eyes' for one comic character... and believes them to be the best thing since sliced bread and nothing can touch them...

good examples of this are

Hulk Fanboys

Superman Fanboys

Wolverine Fanboys

Flash Fanboys

those are the worse we've had on here lol

normal readers are normally just called 'fans' or 'readers' lol, with 'fanboy' being the putdown name for them
