What if GOTG flops ?

I think its a real possibility that GOTG may not do as well As Marvel hopes. Do you think it will do well at the box office ? If it doesnt go well do you think Marvel wouldnt expand their MCU as much as they would want to?

If GOTG flops obviously the studio will reassess some of their deemed "more risky" characters. But MCU will not all together cease with its expansion. You don't walk away from a multi-billion dollar revenue source because of one or two disappointing returns. But I have a strong feeling GOTG will be a very high grossing film.

I think Marvel knows that GotG is a risky move. Consider this a "test" movie. If it does well (which I hope it does), they might release movies and shows about more obscure characters.

There's almost no chance it will flop. All it needs to make is about 325~ to make even. It will probably make 400~

It doesn't need to make anywhere close to Cap's 700 to be successful. And I doubt it will either, since TMNT opens the next week.

Not a hope it will flop. If it does they will just move on to a more well known character.

It won't. If it did, at this point I think the only thing it would change is Guardians of the Galaxy 2 and future titles after Dr Strange would probably be approached with a bit more caution.

Flop? Unlikely... Even if it does earn comparetively less money than all other Marvel-brand movies did in the box-office, they still had made enough money to call it an success.

Marvel seems pretty confident about it, considering how much they've been publicizing it.

It looks great, and will probably get great reviews, but it'll probably be a financial flop. Everybody I know who isn't a comic book fan thinks it looks stupid, and probably won't give it a chance as much as it deserves. It'll basically turn out like Dredd.

Its going to be a family joke movie. A huge punch line of corny jokes and dialogue for kids. It will sell but its not going to be a good movie.

I hope not, because it shows then that people would be willing to find out about more lesser known characters which would be a huge thing not only for Marvel but DC and smaller comicbook companies can have hopes of one day their stories coming to life on the big screen.
