With the announcement of a female-led superhero film and rumors circulating the 'net of a movie called Venom Carnage, it makes me curious as to what other films Sony is developing in their SM cinematic universe. Below are several concepts I've worked tirelessly to plot, as I've researched Spidey characters and devised routes Sony could go if they want to develop the universe beyond SM solo films. I want to know what you guys think about them and what you believe should happen to Spider-Man in cinema.

  • Annex: An obscure Spider-Man character with an intriguing backstory and an equally interesting skillset. Alexander Ellis is a war veteran who becomes a cyborg with a prosthetic exoskeleton who can enhance his senses and create any weapon he requires. His primary antagonist could be Mendel Stromm, otherwise known as the Robot Master or Gaunt. Another possible enemy could be obscure Spider-Man foe, Tracer. Flash Thompson could be a possible supporting character in his film, as an aspiring U.S. soldier who greatly admires Ellis and holds him in high regard. Ellis's disability could allow him to sympathize with Flash's eventual paraplegia. Also, his transformation into Annex could be a vital source of inspiration, along with Spider-Man, of course, for Flash's decision to become Agent Venom.
  • Cloak & Dagger: Central Spider-Man allies who could carry their own film. In the ASM-verse, they could be genetic experiments abducted by Roxxon, a multi-conglomerate pharmaceutical empire and fierce rival of OsCorp, mirroring the origin of their Ultimate incarnations. Their film could have a theme of alienation, fear of the unknown and romance. A perfect enemy for the duo to take on would be the Spot, an enemy of Spider-Man empowered by the same Darkforce energy they possess, or perhaps even Mr. Negative, who has similar abilities.
  • Code: Blue: A New York SWAT team specifically trained to deal with superhuman threats. Its activities are funded by S.A.F.E. The inclusion of this team would represent the public's reaction to the presence of Spider-Man and other superhumans and the measures taken to deal with the threats New York faces in the future. In addition, Code: Blue has been featured in various Spider-Man titles (Amazing Spider-Girl, Cloak & Dagger, Deadly Foes of Spider-Man, Silver Sable, Spider-Man Unlimited, Web of Spider-Man Annual). The team structure and the movie's style could draw inspiration from the Ghostbusters in the sense that they both deal with unnatural threats.
  • Cross-species: It has already been established that this is the term for mutates in the ASM universe. Spider-Man and the Lizard are cross-species, for example. They can be an analogue to the X-Men's mutant species, except that they are a result of science, not mutant biology. And since there are various characters in the SM universe with superhuman abilities, this concept could be further explored throughout the ASM saga in the SM stand-alone films and its potential spin-offs.
  • Divas: Inspired by the shortlived Marvel series. Since the studio owns the rights to Black Cat and presumably Firestar and Photon, it seems like common sense to make a movie starring this all-female team. The plot of the film would center around their relationship with each other and crusade against corrupt crime lords and businessmen.
  • Firestar:Angelica Jones, a character originating from the SM & His Amazing Friends cartoon. In abiding by the film's established cross-species concept, she would be a genetic experiment created by corporations like Fireheart, Roxxon or OsCorp.
  • Loners: A team founded by Spider-Man. The team would be formed as a result of Spider-Man's effort to help misguided super-youths adjust to their abilities and become empowered, help their self-esteem and secure them from persecution. It could include characters such as Alpha, Batwing, Bombshell, Gibbon, Komodo, Speedball, Spider-Girl, etc.
  • Madame Web: Spider-Man's mystic guide and the nexus for the paranormal in the ASM universe: more specifically, the phenomena that can't be explained by science (e.g. Morlun, the Ancients).
  • Mercenaries: The SM universe has a sufficient amount of mercenary-type characters, including Chance, Foreigner, Paladin, etc. They would primarily be featured in Silver Sable's films as allies or rivals.
  • Monica Rambeau/Selah Burke:Monica is a character who appeared in Amazing Spider-Man Annual #16. Selah appeared in Superior Spider-Man Team-Up #1. They are both separate, individual characters with similar abilities. In the ASM universe, Monica could be a detective for the NYPD who investigates superhuman crimes, but in a freak accident, develops superpowers. Her origin could be altered to resemble Selah Burke's, who is the daughter of Lightmaster, notably a Spider-Man foe. Or better still, Selah Burke could appear in the film, but be partially based on Monica. Monica has gone by the aliases Photon, Pulsar, and more recently, Spectrum, in the comics.
  • Morbius: A former associate of Dr. Connors. Using his research on cross-species genetics, he attempts to cure himself of a rare blood disease by splicing his DNA with that of a vampire bat. However, the experiment backfires and worsens his condition. Morbius's backstory and relationship with Dr. Connors could warrant at least one solo film, delving into his ordeal of coming to terms with his condition.
  • Outlaws: A team founded by Spider-Man, mostly comprised of former villains of his. It can possibly be considered an amalgam of the Avengers/X-Men in the SM universe. The team name would stem from the media perceiving Spider-Man and other cross-species as outlaws: inhuman outsiders who defy the law and threaten the safety of baseline humans. Sandman could become the eventual leader in Spider-Man's absence. This team could aid Spider-Man in combating his more deadly enemies and act as an integral element in representing Sandman's shift from disoriented super-freak to beloved superhero and self-assured leader. It could also include characters such as Agent Venom, Annex, Beetle (as MACH-VII), Cloak, Dagger, Firestar, Puma, Prowler, Spider-Woman, etc.
  • OZ: A radioactive mutagen concocted by OsCorp. Its effects are extremely unpredictable and can alter the human physiology to that of a superhuman's. It generally splices human DNA with that of an external element. Its mass dispersal over the city would lead to the creation of other cross-species/superhumans.
  • Prowler: A vigilante who is, at first, an enemy of Spider-Man, but becomes a trusted ally in the future. The Prowler could be the SM universe's Batman, utilizing his genius and plethora of resources in his crusade against crime. He could also provide the audience a more in-depth analysis into the criminal underworld of New York, instead of focusing primarily on superhuman crime. His primary antagonist in the film could easily be Tombstone, a notable SM rogue. Spider-Man has multiple street-level foes (in broader terms, multiple villains in general), so it's not as if there's a shortage of villains to go around.
  • S.A.F.E.: An American government agency that funds the development of superhuman defense technology and cross-species research. It can be considered the S.H.I.E.L.D. of the ASM movie universe.
  • Silver Sable and the Wild Pack: A prime candidate for a stand-alone series of films. Sable is a mercenary who hunts down international criminals to support the economy of fictional European state Symkaria. Sable could tie into Peter's ordeal with his parents, who were killed by the Finisher (Karl Fiers, relative to Gustav Fiers/Gentleman) in the comics and accused of treason against the United States in the 90s' cartoon. Aside from plot relevance, she could be a strong female character in her own right. Her film series could have themes centralizing on family relationships and tragic romance. And if you have Sable, you have to include her team of trained mercenary men, the Wild Pack, who accompany their leader on most of her missions.
  • Slingers: A team founded by Phil Urich, otherwise known as the heroic Golden Goblin. This could also be the ASM movie universe's New Warriors/Teen Titans. The lineup would consist of Dusk, Hornet, Prodigy and Ricochet, led by the Golden Goblin.
  • Solo: A counter-terrorism operative who first appeared in Web of Spider-Man #19. Solo may not warrant a solo film, but he could be a valuable ally and perhaps even love interest to Silver Sable in her series. Also, his catchphrase is: "While I live, terror dies!" Hearing the fierce resolve in those five words, I believe Solo would be an indispensable comrade to Sable.
  • Spider-Slayers: Smythe's Spider-Man-seeking sentries could be a counter-measure of Code: Blue and S.A.F.E. against not only Spider-Man, but all cross-species, but be specifically designed for dealing with the titular hero, as he is considered the first cross-species and deemed a loose cannon. Think Sentinels.
  • Toxin: With the confirmation of a Venom film and presumably Carnage's appearance in said movie, the debut of their offspring isn't too far behind. Patrick Mulligan is one of the NYPD's finest cops, but he is burdened by the stress of his job and supporting his family. The film's story would revolve around Patrick's attempts to suppress his symbiote's baser instincts for violence and protect his family from the depraved Carnage. The character's internal struggle, in itself, would be a captivating plot device.
  • Vigilantes: The concept of a vigilante boom was alluded to in ASM2, with the media questioning the impact Spider-Man has on the city and whether his activities should be permitted. There are already various vigilantes in the SM comics - Cloak, Dagger, Jackpot, Prowler, the "Red" Vulture, Sin-Eater, Speedball, Wraith, etc. In the ASM universe, vigilantes could emerge as a result of Spider-Man's heroic deeds and a significant increase in crime.

Below are a variety of the concepts listed above in expanded form, if you want specific info on each of my ideas. And there's more to come.
