What are Archie Comics about?

What kind of plots do Archie comics tend to have? I've read Marvel, DC, Image and more but I've never really been interested in Archie comics but they've been around for so long, they must be doing something right. What is it?

Funny, simple, slice of life types of stories set in an idyllic world.

Don't really expect too much drama, though, unless you're reading something like Afterlife With Archie.

So are there arcs to the stories or are they usually self-contained.
