I'm curious bout GLs before his run. Especially anything with either John Stewart or Alan Scott.
What are a few good GL stories from before Johns?
Well, a lot of people read more GL than I do,but I really liked "Emerald Twilight" However, most GL fans, it seems, do not. I really liked the O'Neil/Adams stuff from the 70's, which are classics. But some will find it dated. Those were also the first ones I saw with gardner and Stewart, but you may not recognize them. Gardner was a typical nice guy hero, and John was a black man with an attitude.
Emerald Twilight and Zero Hour are quite good.
The following Alan Moore stories are pretty good:
- Mogo Doesn't Socialize (first appearance of Mogo)
- Tygers (first appearance of the Empire of Tears)
- Blackest Night
They are in the TPB Across the Universe. That TPB has some fantastic stories, including, "For the Man Who Has Everything" (which you might remember from an episode of JLU, which was an animated adaptation of this story). It also might have the Killing Joke, depending on the edition.
