Was Galactus an allegory to the christian God?
People on comicvine don't understand literally devices.i don't the majority even understands what an allegory is.
In what way?
In general.
That would be the Presence for DC and TOAA or Nemesis maybe for Marvel. MoM for Spawn Universe. Doom plays God in the New Avengers with the IG. Thanos does so with the HotU.
Superman is Jesus in some arcs where part of the public worships him and others hate him.
X-Men clearly is often about gay rights and segregation.
Captain America and his shield is literally an allusion to the U.S. strategy of "R2P" smaller countries and act as a shield against international villainy, i.e., the Red Skull, HYDRA, the Winter Soldier, etc.,
PR Beyonder represents the power of the 4th wall or the real world, and how public opinion and popularity and sales and comic "events" determine so much about what happens to the characters and the universe inside the comic stories themselves.

TOAA is the writer.

Good point.
Sure, why not? :)

Wasn't he supposed to be Moses?
Not even close.
People sure like to reach on this type of stuff.
Yes they do.
I think gods and their servants have been a concept used for many years not just between Galactus and Silver Surfer.
No. Galactus is a figure of godlike power and presence. However, a very, very key point here (IMO, anyway) is that he is completely and utterly indifferent to the well-being of humanity on any level. The Biblical God, regardless of if you're going with a "nice" New Testament version, or a "vengeful" OT version, is strongly characterized by a profoundly vested interest in how human beings behave, and in particular how they behave towards himself. He has an essentially obsessive need to reinforce a particular relationship between himself and humanity (or at least a particular group of humans). And even apart from the personality differences, God is also famous for being the ultimate creator of everything, whereas Galactus was not shown to be a creative force at all.
So I would say I see pretty much no connection there, though I would be open to hearing the opinions on why some people do.
so the christian god goes on a massive feeding spree that causes extinctions and only spares a handful of people because of reasons ?

as far as galactus as 'god', stan lee has said the inspiration was a character that was so powerful as to be far beyond the basic concepts of good or bad, and godlike in their abilities.
surfer is not jesus, he is an 'angel' heralding the coming of his god and doing some of the dirty work, as it were.

galactus ain't stopping on one "flood" though and he doesn't spare planets for "good" reasons. he spared earth because of a gamble
@kyrees: did u purposely write it that way?
did u purposely write it that way?
what did i write that way ?
so the christian god goes on a massive feeding spree that causes extinctions and only spares a handful of people because of reasons ?
because minus the feeding, this is jus what the christian god does

the christian god hasn't even caused total extinction multiple times like the galactus does and he doesn't even discriminate. galactus sparing a handful of people are majorly personal reasons to his own, unlike the christian god who spares people who generally submitted to him.
@kyrees: the whole deal with christian god is if you dont believe in him, you go to hell. Why would only non believers go there? Thats discrimination. He has also caused an extinction.

galactus eats planets because he has to and he hasn't spared anyone who believes in him. even the shi'ar empire knew that. the only extinction the christian god did is the flood. the various genocides he did when he lead his army hasn't really killed everyone in the promised land.

Hell isn't even a part of the original christianic concept.
@nickras: and yet its there
@kyrees: you just admitted that god discriminates
you just admitted that god discriminates
i said galactus doesn't discriminate and god hasn't exactly destroyed every living thing (as in including the animals) in the promised land.
@kyrees: he still killed, something i, a mere mortal, will never do
he still killed, something i, a mere mortal, will never do
lol. you won't protect or feed yourself even in life or death situation ? quite a pitiful mortal
ignoring that, galactus and the christian god in no way comparable nor does the former an allegory to the latter.
@kyrees: i wont get into such a situation. My god doesnt promote violence
i wont get into such a situation. My god doesnt promote violence
you know, the last guy who did this character-god seriously was banned. keep up that then.
Hmmm, I'll say yes. Especially since he keeps threatening Armageddon, but never seems to get around to it. Thanks, FF!
