Was Banner in control of the Hulk in The Avengers?

I just re-watched the movie and it seemed to me that he did.What are your thoughts?(I'm talking about the final battle against the chitauri)

I don't think he could control the Hulk, but he did allow the transformation to happen, and directed the Hulk toward the enemy.

@kal_smahboi: Could be that,but my point is that he was not acting savage enough to look like he was being controlled by the other guy.

@marvete_e_dcnauta: Yeah, I see what you're saying. My previous comment is just how it came to me when I first saw it. Another reason that I think that is that Banner continues to refer to the Hulk as "the other guy." To me, that implies that the other form has another being or consciousness that Banner can't control to any great extent. Having said that, I see the calmness that you mention.

I'd say there was at least a minimum of control there, like mentioned above; Hulk obeyed orders and helped team-mates which isn't something that the "Hulk Smash" type of Hulk does.

yeah, even though they gave a bellow par explanation of how he did that, everyone including me didn't care, that seen was awesome! There are actually a good amount of errors in the avengers movie cough..ear pieces missing and still talking..but it was such a great movie, nobody cares about the mistakes.

Yep. He was being brainwashed by Loki when he was attacking them. He punched Thor during the Battle of New York for the lols.

I was always under the impression that since the first transformation on the helicarrier was force he wasnt in control but since he encouraged the transformation he was in at least partial control of his actions
