Variant cover question

I recently bought X-O Manowar issues # 1 & 2. Both covers are just pencil drawings. Does anyone know if those are variant covers? Also is there a way to tell if an issue is a variant cover other than comparing it with the cover of the same issue? I should've ask when I was at my comic book store but didn't think about it until I got home.

Our website has a good amount of variants uploaded, especially newer stuff like this.

Variants usually say they are variants on the cover. In your case, they are variant covers put out on additional printings.
