Although I remember seeing Archie, G.I. Joe and Star Wars comics on spinning racks at grocery stores growing up and had loved cartoons like Challenge of the Superfriends or Spiderman, it wasn't until 1988 I discovered superhero comic books.

What caught my eye in the used book store that day was Amazing Spiderman #298 which sat side by side with some back issues from the Kraven's Last Hunt story arc. I bought all of those issues and on a whim picked up The Dark Knight Returns. From that point on, I was hooked and the rest they say is history...

Crisis on Infinite Earths number 6! Can you imagine being 11 years old and seeing that cover, with the Anti-Monitor on it, and George Perez in his prime drawing the most super heroes I had ever seen.

How could I not be hooked for life after that lol

First comic I remember reading was a Spider-Man issue where Harry Osborne was Peter's roommate. Harry was high on pills ,and while Pete was taking a shower Harry decides to go through his dresser and found Peter's Spidey suit and was royally pissed.

I remember it because it had drugs and a panel of a dude trying to jump off a building thinking he could fly

I was like... this is nothing like the cartoon lol

I remember going down to the comic book store and picking up a couple issues of Batman:R.I.P. I was probably six so that put me off comics for a while.

Mostly because of this.

The first issue I remember buying is Tales of the Green Lantern Corps Annual #1.

No Caption Provided

Of course, by the time I bought it the thing was about ten years old. Then I remember being heavily involved in the Ultimate-Spider Man series (Bendis' original run) and the early Savage Dragon stuff (which I had to pick up as back-issues).

I believe the earliest comic I recall reading was Green Lantern's Emerald Dawn mini-series (I and II) back in the late 80's or early 90's. I really go to see how Sinestro went from a great Green Lantern, to one of their biggest enemies, and it brought up the ideas of peace through force. I'm glad I started there.

I think the first comic I've ever owned as a kid was Batman Beyond #11

No Caption Provided

Then that lead to Marvel action figures with the comic inside, Ghost Rider was my first and favorite one! Wish I took care of it lol. I got one of these toys almost every weekend, so I had a pretty nifty collection of these things. The ones I still have are broke and missing their limbs, I also sold a Galactus on ebay for 20 or more so bucks, can't remember.

No Caption Provided

But what got me into collecting comics was when I went into a comic shop and picked up the new 52 Batman #10, and I've been getting comics ever since.

I remember sneaking away a copy of Eerie #13 from my dad's workshop when I was fairly young. I just remember not having any idea how to read it or what was going on but I knew it was taboo so I loved it.

I probably was reading comics for awhile but my true first memory was of going to the neighborhood grocery store and buying Defenders#1. And then following up by going each and every day (I still hadn't realized that the store got one delivery of comics a week and that the Defenders came out on a monthly basis) to make sure I never missed an issue. To this day I have a weakness for anything that has Defenders in the title

i have this one. I remember buying for around 60-80 dollars i had saved up when I was somewhere between 7-11. I felt ripped off but it just seemed like such an awesome issue. McFarlane art was just the best I'd ever seen back then.

The first comic I ever picked up was at a news stand when I was probably around the age of 5.

Who was this scary villain? Why is Batman wearing those awesome heavy Gauntlets? Why is this "Bane" telling Batman he's not the real Batman? Haha, I remember being so utterly confused as to what was happening but at the same time my interest was piqued. It wouldn't be till almost a decade later that i actually sat down and read Knightfall-KnightsEnd. Additionally this issue is long gone wrong my collection. However, I do dream of one day collecting this entire saga issue by issue in it's entirety.

I remember going to my grandpa's house as a kid and he was going through his collection of Fantastic Four comics. A 90's Batman and Superman comic got in his collection some how and he gave them to me. I was confused as hell why Superman had a mullet and I was even more confused on why was Catwoman helping Batman & Robin and who Nightwing was.
