First list are the ones you provided as per the OP. Second list is my own.
- superman
- the x-men
- captain America
- Thor
- the hulk
- ghost rider
- fantastic four
- dare devil
- green lantern
- Spider-Man
- batman
- iron man
- Cat woman
Top 7 are explained in my picks below. Hal was chosen and didn't really DO anything to be a hero. He is where he is because he did step up and take on Parallax by himself. Pretty ballsy. Spidey, Bats, and Tony all had to have something terrible happen to them to make them what they are. If Uncle Ben and Bruce's parents didn't die, there would be no Spider-Man or Batman. Same with Tony being kidnapped. I don't consider Catwoman a hero so she's last. I deleted Wolverine and The Avengers due to overlap.
- Superman (MoS)
- X-Men
- Captain America
- Thor
- Blade
- Hulk (Norton)
- Hellboy
- Spawn
- Ghost Rider
- Fantastic 4
Superman and Thor are incredibly powerful and just plain old want to help and be good. Superman got top bill because of the amount of crap he took in order to prove to people that he could be trusted as a friend. Thor is at number 3 because if Odin hadn't sent him here, he would not have learned the humility needed to make the list at all.
The X-Men stood up and protected people that hated them because it was the right thing to do.
Cap wanted to do his part and fight those Nazi bastards even though he could be out-muscled by a Pomeranian.
Blade, Hulk, Spawn, Iron Man, GR, and the Fantastic 4 all took major negatives and made them positives. Blade took top billing over the rest because he made it his life's work pretty much.
