Top five most popular Marvel characters?

So, with three movies under his belt Iron Man is probably the most popular character in Marvel right now.

But, what about the top five?

My list would be:

1. Iron Man.
2. Wolverine.
3. Spider-Man.
4. Thor.
5. Captain America .

Green Goblin is Spider-Man's biggest villain. He's been in the cartoons against Spidey. He's Spidey's biggest villain in the films. Cap and Thor have been in one solo movie each and featured little in 'The Avengers'.

@mucklefluga: well all I can tell you is that friends of mine who know nothing about comics know Cap and Thor easily. Many people don't even know Green Goblin. I mean dude, Avengers JUST came out. It's pretty obvious what characters people are more aware of ATM.

My parents call Thor "the guy with the hammer" :L I guess it just depends on where you live in how you depict who's more popular. (The Maguire Spiderman films aren't that old!)

Right now, if you take a majority poll, people know about these characters more than others:

This is a great point, from my experience people seem to talk about Robert Downey Jr. far more than they do Iron Man, characters like Batman (Val Kilmer) Superman (Brandon Routh) Spider-Man (Tobey McGuire) are still popular even when the actor who plays them isn't or doesn't do that great of a job playing them. So far Robert is overshadowing Iron Man, even in the marketing they make sure RDJ isn't wearing his helmet most of the time when he's in the suit. That tells me even Marvel/Disney knows he's the true draw of the films NOT Iron Man.

Anyway top 5:

2. Iron Man (as of now it'll be interesting to see where he is after RDJ leaves though)

3. Wolverine

4. The Hulk (might be as popular or more popular than Wolverine thanks to the Avengers but I'll give Logan the edge since he seems to sell more merchandise)

5. Thor and Captain America (honestly can't give a real edge to either one, they seem equal in popularity to me)
