will you pick up Snyder/Lee when it is released in 2013? I am not a fan of Supes and I will probably still get the first issue.

Its is my hopes that they can do something good with Superman his new 52 reboot has been a dud. He has none of the same morals or character of his pre 52 version. I do not know how Snyder will do he seems to want to add horror elements to everything he writes and that is not a good fit for Superman. My hopes is Superman will be written closer to the pre 52 version.

@BR_Havoc: Yea New 52 really missed the mark with Superman, he's been the ultimate symbol of hope for decades then DC decides he needs to be all angsty its BS really and honestly I blame all those folks that mistake dark and gritty for quality. Not that dark and gritty are always bad but we don't need it with every damn character.

We see eye to eye on this matter. I think what DC did was say ok Marvels biggest hero is Spider-Man he is one of the most relatable characters in all of comics. Now many have said Superman is a character that is hard to relate to so lets just make him Peter Parker. Teenage angst does not work for a character like Clark Kent or Superman he is a character that is better off being written as a full grown adult. They should of done something similar to AquaMan with him keep his marriage in tact and start off there.

Too be fair to Snyder most of the characters he rights usually call for that type of thing. I would say the concern is more about inexperience in writing a character who does't call for it.
Snyder said he likes to turn a characters greatest strengths against them. In Batmans case it was his knowledge of Gotham. In Superman's it's going to be Superman's unwillingness to use his power to really change and effect things around the world. Not sure I put it right.

If I'm being totally honest, if the creative team is Snyder and Lee, I'll try the book regardless of the title character.

@BR_Havoc: I'm also not a fan of the loss of the mutual respect between Batman and Superman, I'm fine if DC doesn't want them to be close friends any more, I can deal with that. But adding him to the ranks of people Batman treats like ignorant children is infuriating. He's goddamned Superman, The origin of the term Super Hero he deserves more respect than that.

I agree with you but for some odd reason DC seems to write Superman being this like teenage personality in a heroes body it doesn't work. Superman should be every bit as mature as Batman.

@BR_Havoc: I know what you mean, I think if they want to write a teen in a grown up body, go write Shazam. Its been the premise of that book since the 40s

Wasn't too crazy about Superman until I read All-Star Superman and loved it. Just started the Animated Series from the 90's and I'm really getting into the character. I will definately get Snyder's when it hits the shelves!

Well,AC takes place five years in the past! And Superman's first year in the job!

As for SUPERMAN read the first issue of Scott Lodbell's run(issue 13) and you will see why you are wrong.

I am sorry but if you don't follow the series how can you judge?

I've attempted to get into Superman titles before, picked up a few issues here or there, just never got really into it. With my luck, I was probably always picking the crap. I've always wanted to like Superman and I'm a huge Batman fan and love when Bats and The Boy Scout meet up. I'm also a huge fan of Scott Snyder. I read Batman, Swamp Thing, Talon and I loved Severed and his run on Detective Comics. So when I heard that Snyder was taking on a Superman title (especially with Lee) I was very excited and I will be picking it up and I really do hope Snyder writes a Superman I can enjoy.

Man I really wish GA Superman was back. I would like to see Batman try to talk to him in a condescending way. Let's see how long he would last.

@SandMan_: GA Superman would put his bat ass through a wall for talking to him like that

I love Superman when he's written we'll. For The Man Who Has Everything, Whatever Happened To The Man Of Tomorrow, All Star, Birthright, Most anything Geoff Johns did with the character. I'm excited to read Snyder's take on Supes. Don't know if I'll do it in singles or wait for the trade.

It only lasted like 5 issues...and it was in either Action or JL.

But they didn't really bring him back.
#33 Posted by joshmightbe (19394 posts) - 4 months, 25 days ago - Show Bio

@SandMan_: Well GA Super Man isn't really the same Superman the world thinks of when they hear the name, He was kind of a dick and honestly doesn't really fit in with what DC seems to be trying to do with him. Back then he didn't have a bunch of angst and emotional baggage he was there to kick ass and make bad puns who no one ever criticized because they were too busy picking their teeth up off the floor.

#34 Posted by lightsout (730 posts) - 4 months, 25 days ago - Show Bio

Put me in the camp of preferring pre-52 Supes (shinning symbol of good, respected, all that jazz). I'll go a step further from what's been mentioned, in that I DO want him & Batman to be great friends again. Superman/Batman was probably my favorite all-time title. I want to see that title come back.

#35 Posted by SandMan_ (2347 posts) - 4 months, 25 days ago - Show Bio
@joshmightbe: GA Superman didn't take s*it from anyone. He wouldn't take s*it from none of the leaguers either, especially Batman. Its a shame, that guy kicked ass but still was, well, Superman. Beacon of hope. If you hurt a child or a woman he would go after you and smash your head into the pavement. Wasn't SA Superman the one who was a dick?

If there is anyone to blame for his disappearance it was that Superman editor back then and the comic book authority that kinda forced Supes to become the boyscout people still believe he is today.

@joshmightbe: If SA Superman was a ass hole....Then where does that leave Hal and Bruce? XD

#39 Posted by joshmightbe (19394 posts) - 4 months, 25 days ago - Show Bio

@SandMan_: Hal Jordan sucks that's all I'm going to say as for Batman he's not a full on douche but has many douche like quaities

#43 Posted by Sharkbite (252 posts) - 4 months, 25 days ago - Show Bio

I am not a fan of Superman. As a result, I am definately going to pass.

I did pull ever issue of Action Comics when it was following the adventures of Lex Luthor; him I like. But I've always disliked Superman because he just seemed too powerful. When virtually nothing can hurt you, it doesn't take a whole lot of courage to run into a burning building or throw yourself on top of a hand grenade.

#44 Posted by lightsout (730 posts) - 4 months, 24 days ago - Show Bio

@Sharkbite: Devil's advocate - it takes a lot to use said-powers in an altruistic manner instead of serving one's own desires (or even straight up causing "evil" with them). Superman doesn't even use his abilities to give himself some extra money (making diamonds from coal to sell, selling kryptonian tech, anything like that) - he only uses them to protect people.
