I'm saying Thor as superman is too much of a boy scout
Thor or Superman: Most badass?
"Who's more badass" is a loaded question. It's biased against people like Superman who don't feel the need to posture.

Hero A may be just as strong (physically or in terms of character) as Hero B, but since Hero B has a "tough guy" persona, and the writers constantly play up the fact that he's a tough, uncompromising warrior, he's perceived as more "badass" than Hero A, who doesn't make a big deal out of his fighting prowess. I think a similar thing happens with Superman and Thor.
Another one, for example is Captain America and Deathstroke. These two have the same powers. While Deathstroke uses lethal force more often, Captain America is probably the better fighter, and is a hardened veteran of both commando operations and superhuman conflict. All the same, Deathstroke gets more credibility in the eyes of "who would win" debaters because he feels the need to posture (the same is true of Batman and Wolverine), while Captain America's ego isn't tied to how intimidated people are by him, so he wears the stars and stripes and maintains a relaxed, but confident demeanor.
Superman, he doesn't need a tough guy attitude or a magical carpentry tool to fight.
Thor only needs mjolnir for flight, matter manipulation and portals. He is still a warrior god without it and can definitely fight. But on the other hand I think superman needs a tough guy attitude haha

Thor is bad ass but its meant to be badass when boy scout superman is badass its even cooler then thor because its not normal

Ouch. Even an Asgardian would feel that
Superman is indirectly badass whenever he's badass, he's too nice of a person. Thor is a badass on purpose.

Exactly. Helping people is more important to him than being seen as a being of godlike power. Thor's way more concerned with appearances, and insecure imo.
@darthmummy: Yes he does have that issue from time to time.

While it's true he is arrogant and all that, I wouldn't say he is insecure. And he loves earth and it's people, helping the people is really important to him too

Well, for whatever reason, he brags a lot about all his titles, power, and Mjolnir, and generally throws his weight around abrasively, always trying to assert himself as the strongest guy in the room. Superman is more chill because he knows he has nothing to prove.
Some of Thor's best moments come when he lets his actions speak for themselves (maybe preceded by, "HAVE AT THEE!"), but these moments are few because, as you said, he's a benevolent presence, not usually destructive. For the most part, he tends to let off steam by acting like a bellowing meathead (albeit one that can back up his boasts with the wrath of a god).
Thor. Not much of a contest.
*ahem*
Thor is usually more of the badass but a moment that comes to mind of Clark being badass was when he was flying around the world at a thousand miles per second, searching for Doomsday, intercepting DD's poison and thunder-clapping to disperse it with a shockwave, then punching DD into orbit and bull rushing him to Venus.
Now that was badass.
Thor. Not much of a contest.
*ahem*
Thor looks more of a warrior, clark looks like a lumberjack.
@princearagorn1: a BADASS lumberjack
@princearagorn1: a BADASS lumberjack
True. But warrior > lumberjack.
@princearagorn1: fair enough. But we are judging the levels of badassery, and Clark at the right time could make anyone sh*t their pants. So clearly "not much of a contest" isn't entirely correct.
@battle_forum_junkie: Don't post that it's just too sexy
@z3ro180: I know, right! That pic made grow a pair of ovaries, which almost instantly exploded.
