I was thinking recently that most hugely popular superheroes where created in the Golden Age and Silver Age of comics you'v got your Supermans and your Batmans, your Spider-Mens and your Hulks but what in your OPINION is the best and most popular superhero to be created in the last 10-15 years?
The Best Super Hero Created In The Last 10 Years
In my opinion? Ultimate Captain America (created 2001 or 2002, if memory serves), and the Ultimates as a whole. Ultimate Cap is a great modernization of the original, and has given tons of memorable action-packed moments. Him taking on the Avengers, being President, and the infamous 'This letter stands for France' moment. Plus, the awesome one-liners he's given:
"We have a plan. We hit him till he drops."
Winter Soldier. While Bucky has been around for nearly 70 years, his revival as the Winter Soldier in 2004-05 makes him a new character to me.
His story has been my favorite of the past decade. He went from brainwashed assassin to a man troubled by his past and then finds a family of friends and becomes Captain America. He stays the course even after he loses his mantle and nearly his life. Even after losing the love of his life, he carries on.

Strictly within the last ten years I'd say Kick-Ass and Hit-Girl, but within the last fifteen my answer would change to The Sentry (as the best, though not necessarily most popular).
Also don't forget that in the last fifteen years we've had Grant Morrison's New X-Men run, which gave us Quentin Quire and the Stepford Cuckoos.
Within the past ten years we've also had Geoff John's Green Lantern run, introducing Atrocitus and Larfleeze, Jon Ostrander's Star Wars: Legacy, which gave us Cade Skywalker, and Mark Millar's Superior starring the eponymous titular character.
Does Batwoman count? I know there was a Batwoman before, but the new one is a different person, and is quite different.
Anti-Venom and Flash Thompson as Venom would be my go-to picks. But technically all those characters already existed beforehand, so. . .
Fantomex is a little more than ten years old, but just a few months. If he doesn't count, then. . . maybe Iron Lad? Having a hard time coming up with good characters created within the ten year timeframe, and I suppose Iron Lad has as good a core concept as any.
I wonder how long will it take to see Invincible, Damian Wayne, Jaime Reyes and the likes to be mentioned.
BB
Invincible. Hands down.
Beat me to it.
@billy_batson: I was expecting Mark to be the first character mentioned
Red Hood.
I was initially unhappy about the resurrection of Jason Todd as I thought it would erase Batmans greatest failure. In actuality, the existence of Jason as the Red Hood only solidifies Batman's failure to protect Jason. It also creates an interesting relationship between Jason and Bruce as well as introduces a new dynamic for the bat family.
I can't believe people are listing all these rebooted/revamped characters from 15+ years ago.
yea most of these characters were created more than 10-15 years ago
Does Batwoman count? I know there was a Batwoman before, but the new one is a different person, and is quite different.
I love Batwoman, but there was a previous Batwoman and Kate is too closely connected with Batman. That is why I looked elsewhere. Same with Damian Wayne.
Damian Wayne, IMO.
@knighthood:Wasn't that like 15 years ago?
Jessica Jones, though she falls just outside of the 10 year mark. She's probably the last fully developed character Marvel has introduced to their universe.
Red Hood. His new 52 series is very good and his relationship with Bruce and the other Robin are gold
Damian Wayne.
1987
Winter Solider obviously
1941
Red Hood.
1983
Kaine.
Agent Venom
1994
1962

Guys, he's not asking for your favorite new costumes on classic characters, he's asking for new heroes.
By going with your logic, I would then pick Marvel Now's Carol Danvers. Her costume is slightly different, and her new superhero name isn't exactly like her old one, therefore she's a brand new hero!
Those two shouldn't be considered as superheroes. Would Red Hood even be considered a superhero? He's more along the lines of a vigilante.
Quentin Quire
Miles Morales
Haunt... Was this guy's series cancelled though? I feel like I haven't bought a Haunt issue in forever.
cool thread. let's see if I can have my time's of creation in order......
1) How about other Lantern Corps? the addition of the spectrum have made for quite interesting storylines, and Larfleeze is great. Don't know about "hero" criteria though.
2) Blue Marvel. Great character, incredibly underused and wasted.
3) Skaar. Fantastic continuation of the Hulk lineage.
4) y'know? I'm gonna have to agree with others on picks like Invincible, Rulk, and X23 also.
5) Honorable mentions from the X family IMO are: Rockslide and Darwin.
6) Young Avengers in general. Patriot is a great unique concept along with Wiccan.
how long has Plutoian been around?
I agree with many of the points people have brought up but we r really splitting hairs when we r talking about vigilante vs superhero. That's a slippery slope as someone like Batman can then even be reduced to just a vigilante rather than a "super"hero. I instead think of superhero as sort of an umbrella term that encompasses all masked heroes, often even those with sometimes morally ambiguous actions. There are some you could say do wrong things but its all in an "ends justify the means" sort of ideology rather than the "means justifying the ends". The Watchmen is actually a commentary on this very notion. It's debatable which one is actually more ethical.
Damian Wayne.
1987
Winter Solider obviously
1941
Red Hood.
1983
Kaine.
Agent Venom

Damian Wayne wasn't a hero until 2006 atleast not Robin so he also counts.
If it was 2014 I might have to come up with someone different. :)

Ultimate Cap's not a 'rebooted old character' in the vein of Winter Soldier, he's the alternate universe version of a mainstream 616 character. I think he qualifies as a newly-created superhero.
But if you want wholly-original characters, my vote goes for the Lantern Corps. Cheesy as they may be, they more or less revitalized the entire Green Lantern mythology, and the emotional aspect introduced a fresh spin to the Corps. Characters like Atrocitus, Larfleeze, and Nekron are all ingrained into GL now.
